Motivation And Imagination In Scary Movies

It was a Saturday night when I had decided to be brave and watch a scary movie. I decided to watch it at night to get the ultimate experience. Of course, now I know I was dumb for watching it at night, but back then I thought it was the right way to experience a scary movie. After the movie was over I couldn't close my eyes without feeling like if I didn't open them something would get me. I ended up watching Disney movies the rest of the night with all the lights on and a knife by my side. It took me until morning to realize that the only real danger was me not getting any sleep. Still, I slept with the knife under my pillow and I never watched a scary movie again, well not at night. Although even then I knew there wasn't any danger, my mind still made me feel as if I was. I couldn't think rationally without thinking about what if this one time something actually happens. This leaves the question how and when does imagination take over for logic? …show more content…

They start to feel as if they are in danger. Then shortly after imagination starts to take over. People start to think that they are in more danger than they actually are. An example of this comes from Edgar Allen Poe where he says ¨I felt that I breathed an atmosphere of sorrow. An air of stern, deep, and irredeemable gloom hung over and pervaded all.¨(Poe para 7). In that passage, the main character has come to the home of Usher. This, of course, is a new and unfamiliar place for him. He says that it brings him a feeling of gloom. that he doesn't feel right. This, of course, isn't without reason as later on it is revealed what is truly going on in the house and it is a good enough cause for his feeling of gloom. As a person's fear starts to sink in then it takes hold of the mind. It takes the ability to think rationally and instead fills it with fear. Like when someone comes out of a horror
