Monotheism means belief in the existence of one supreme God. Some of the earliest monotheistic religions include Judaism, Zoroastrianism,Christianity and some quasi monotheistic thought in ancient Chinese religion. They are so many reasons given for the emergency of monism one of them being, multiple gods were fighting for supremacy so if they is to be one supreme God they will not be fighting and also prophets sent by a supreme god to tell people to only worship him and abandon worship of multiple gods . Monolatrism is considered a stage in the development of monotheism.
