Monica Murray chose to investigate the pseudoscience of horoscopes. A horoscope is something a person writes to determine one’s future based on their zodiac sign. Monica’s group collected everyone's name and zodiac signs in the classroom. Then, they made some fake ones and some real ones. The people then had to determine which one was more accurate and depending on the resulting number, it would prove the accuracy of horoscopes. According to Monica, she does not agree with horoscopes because a zodiac should and cannot tell you about yourself. Monica also went on to say that she chose to investigate zodiac signs to prove to her peers that horoscopes can be inaccurate. I do not feel that Monica had any barriers during this project, however, the
Donna Freitas “Time to Stop Hooking Up. (You Know You Want to.)” First appeared as an editorial in the Washington Post in 2013. In this essay Freitas aims to convince her readers that hooking up may seem easy and less stress than a real relationship, but in reality they become unhappy, confused, and unfulfilled in their sex life. “Hookups are all about throwing off the bonds of relationships and dating for carefree sex” personal experience, compare and contrast are a few techniques Freitas skillfully uses to strong convincing essay.
“Straining his eyes, he saw the lean figure of General Zaroff. Then... everything went dark. Maggie woke up in her bed. “Finally woke up from that nightmare. Man… I miss my brother. Who was that person that my brother wanted to kill?” she looks at the clock and its 9:15am “Crap I’m late for work!” Maggie got in her car and drove to the hospital for work.

In the story, Melinda has a very strong relationship with her teacher Mr. Freeman. Since the start of the school year, Mr. Freeman made Melinda feel comfortable, and encouraged her to express herself. This reminded me of the relationship I had with my GLE teacher, since the start of the school year. Similar to how Mr. Freeman was always available to listen to Melinda, Mr. Santos my GLE teacher made me feel like he was always available to listen. When Melinda stays with her art teacher during lunch to work on her assignment, it is comparable to how I stayed in Mr. Santos’s office during lunch.
In her book, Lisa Cahill, a theologian bioethicist does not object the necessity and a patient 's right to self-determination, or autonomy. Echoing the voices of Beauchamp and Childress, who both stress the necessity of informed consent, as an integral part of autonomy, Cahill views it as necessary in the prevention of abuse and unethical practices. She also views the principle of autonomy a means of recognizing the dignity of a human being that is reflected in Christian teachings. Cahill, however, does not want this principle to be the only one valued.
Using the murder of Dee Ann’s mother as a means to intertwine the lives of the characters together, Steve Yarbrough examines the nature of relationships in “The Rest of Her Life.” The relationships in the story take a turn after Dee Ann’s mother is killed, with characters seeking to act more on their own, creating distance between many relationships throughout the story. Independent lifestyles prevent emotional bonds that hold relationships together from forming, thus preventing the characters from maintaining healthy relationships. The dysfunctional relationship present between Dee Ann and Chuckie in “The Rest of Her Life” is the result of the characters ' desire for self-gratification.
...sage that affected her the most, the one that had the most influence on the creating of the Crisis Text Line. Young people shouldn’t have to feel alone when they’re having hard times. Young people shouldn’t have to be so afraid of going to school because they’re being bullied by their classmates. They shouldn’t feel like they have to commit suicide because of all pain that is in their life. They shouldn’t have to resort to cutting to relieve emotional pain or desolation. Young people shouldn’t have to worry about being sexually abused by the one’s closest to them. It happens, though, none of which should, but it does. Are we going to sit around and let it happen, or are we going to do something about it? Are we going to show young people today that we love them and care about them and want them to succeed in life? Are we going to show them that we are there for them?
He initially possesses traits of being a very strong, dominant ladies’ man. Once he learns the news of his father 's infidelity, Quincy becomes weak and indecisive about his future. We immediately see that Monica defies all gender stereotypes that women are supposed to display. She has to be force into dresses and gets told to act like a lady by her mother constantly. She is often very loud and boastful about her skills. However, she quickly had to learn to control her hot temper in order to get recruited into college. During their first encounter, Quincy states he has never known a girl who knew so much about basketball or even can play at that matter. That statement in itself reflects the stereotype of women not only being ignorant towards male dominated activities but also the inability to
Alison’s story is the perfect example of what many families must go through when faced with the possibility of having a child diagnosed with a learning disability. Alison was not diagnosed with visual and auditory dyslexia until the summer before entering college. However, while still a toddler, her symptoms had been brought to her mother’s attention by her sister’s teacher. Alison’s mother then noticed her habits in repeating words incorrectly and how Alison would need tactile clues to follow directions. At the recommendation of her kindergarten teacher, Alison was tested for learning disabilities and the results from the school psychologists were that she was acting stubborn or disobedient. Her family did not stop with the school’s diagnosis. They had private testing completed that confirmed Alison did not have a specific learning disability. The final word came from a relative that happened to be a psychologist. He insisted Alison would grow out of her difficulties. So Alison continued on with her entire elementary, middle and high school journey as a student and daughter with an undiagnosed learning disability.
...woman by pursuing a career in the predominately male field of astrology and excelling. The “standard candle” of measurement, known as the period-luminosity relationship, developed through her study of Cepheid variable stars allowed us to view the universe like never before and forever changed the way we look at the cosmos.

Her friends always asked her for help doing some things, good and bad, but she did her best to stay away from that kind of things. Like on page 106 in the novel when her friend Heather says “When you get through a life sucks phase, I’m sure lots of people will want to be your friend. But you just can’t cut classes or not show up to school. What’s next-- hanging out with the dopers?” and Melinda replies “Is this the part where you try to be nice to me?” and Heather replies “You just have a reputation.” This shows how negative peer pressure affects people, like how Heather thinks that she will end up hanging out with druggies, because she has already been pressured into skipping school and class. Andy Evans, the guy who raped her, always put himself around her, almost as peer pressure to not tell anyone, because he knew he could overpower her and that he was intimidating to her. Although Melinda had gone through a lot in her first year of high school, peer pressure had affected her, and she tried to seem invisible to everyone, until she finally figured out where she belonged and who she was, then exposing Andy Evans which allowed everyone
“Death ends a life, not a relationship”(Albom 174). This quote shows Morrie’s opinion on death. Morrie believes that relationships last forever, not just in the presence of two people. Morrie teaches people to live through loving family, caring less for material items, and not being afraid of death.
The argument is that some people question why the description of the sign does not fit them. The answer is that there are three parts to the birth chart: the sun, the moon, and the ascendant. The sun (fast) travels through all 12 zodiac signs during the course of approximately a year. The moon (faster) travels through all 12 zodiac signs during the course of approximately a month, and the ascendant (fastest): travels through all 12 zodiac signs during the course of a 24 hour day. Also, a birth chart and interpretation or either a horoscope and compatibility report cannot be accurate for everyone born under a specific zodiac sign unless the astrologer has accurate information about the time of birth, date of birth and place of birth. Sometimes the time is not known and an astrologer will use 12:01 P.M. which, while not as accurate as it should be, will put one as close to the target as possible. Without this information everything one reads about one’s sign anywhere will be generalized information.
