Monica Lewinsky's TED Talk: The Price Of Shame

The first TED Talk selected was Monica Lewinsky’s 2015 talk, “The Price of Shame.” In her talk, she discusses how the brand new online culture affected her after the 1998 presidential scandal. (Lewinsky 2015; 2:45-3:38) Today, she calls for compassion through her story not for herself, but for the hundreds of thousands of victims who are tormented online (Lewinsky 2015; 10:40-12:55). I selected this talk because of a personal recommendation, and also for my own personal interest. Monica Lewinsky has always been a interesting figure and referenced often in pop culture, for as she states less than a minute in, she has been in almost 40 rap songs (2015; 00:23-00:58). Danielle Feinberg gave a talk called “The Magic Ingredient That Brings Pixar Movies to Life.” (2015). I have watched interviews and read books by Pixar staff before, and am always thoroughly interested in what they have to say. Feinberg revealed that the magic she speaks of in the title is the realism and lifelikeness brought to the animation through lighting (2015; 2:16-2:36). While chosen for the Pixar content, I also wanted to see how a Pixar based TED Talk would be, because Pixar’s employee are always excellent on keeping the same qualities of their movies throughout their public work and interviews. He had many visuals, mostly utilizing clips from the very movie he is discussing as a part of the talk. There was lots of movement through his gestures and around the stage, and he used quite a bit of humor in his talk. I might attempt to try to emulate his extemporaneous presentation and fluid movements, but I would tone down some of the humor and use of visuals. Some audio used seemed awkward and just unnecessary. Spurlock did not connect all of his points together, and lost me a bit in the middle. I hope to keep my all connected and interesting throughout. (2011;
