The Mom and Pop shop open every day at 9:00 am, and the Pop has never been late opening the doors, it has been this way for 45 years. A long time, the shop stays open until 9:00 pm every day, except on Sundays and Holidays. Both Mom and Pop have worked the 12 hour shifts for 45 years, they have raised their family, they are loved by the community, it is, and has been the true American dream. However, one day Pop is working the register, and a young man enters the store, this young man kills Pop during an Armed Robbery. The police arrive, and determine through the video system, that the suspect was inside the store approximately 45 seconds, fortunately, a young beat cop was able to locate and arrest the suspect. However, the wheels of Justice …show more content…
This will start with the law enforcement officer arresting a suspect for a crime, in this example, for the murder of pop. The suspect will go in front of a judge, where the suspect will be informed of the charges of the crime, a necessary part of due process. The judge, will grant bail, or deny bail, the case will move from the charging attorney to the prosecuting attorney, this is where the prosecuting attorney becomes involved in the case and starts the working relationship with the law enforcement officers, victims and witnesses which are …show more content…
The reason for this pick, I believe, that we forget why we are here, for example, the focus quite often is on the offenders, and the victim/witness’s often leave the court with the memories that will never leave them, they are forever scarred. The biggest challenge I would be faced with, is the lack of resources that are available to the victims/witness’s, in the end, it all comes down to dollars. Therefore, my approach to advance the solution to this problem, would be through public awareness, reaching out to the community leaders and the public, thereby, providing a deeper awareness to this problem. The squeaky wheel gets the oil, therefore, I would be the squeaky
On a normal work night at Pete’s Pizza, two co-workers decided to switch shifts. Kayla Cutler asked Gabie Klug to work a Wednesday evening, so she could have Friday evening off. That night Kayla and Drew are working, a man named “John Robertson” called in to order three large meat monster pizzas to be delivered to 1091 River Road which is a fake address. He asked if the girl in the mini cooper was making deliveries, the one driving the mini cooper is Gabie, but since Gabie isn’t there, Kayla had to go make the delivery. Kayla takes the order and never comes back, so Drew got worried and decided to call the police and file a report, for a missing person. As time passes, Drew told Gabie that the guy who ordered had asked for the girl driving

On April 4, 2008 Goldman, Sachs & Co. submitted a prepared prospectus for Dollar General Corporation. According to the prospectus, Dollar General is the largest discount retailer in the United States by number of stores. They serve a broad customer base and majority of products are priced at $10 or less and approximately 30% of products are price at $1 or less. They believe that their combination of value and convenience is what has kept them ahead of their competitors since opening in 1955. Dollar General has had substantial growth in recent years, growing their number of stores from 5,540 as of February 1, 2002 to 8,229 as of February 2, 2007. This growth encouraged Richard Dreiling,
In chapter twelve, Joel Samaha has discussed various court proceedings before trial. Samaha begins to elaborate the importance of the prosecutor’s decision in determining whether there is a concrete case against the alleged defendant. The evidence at hand ultimately dictates the proceeding of events in court. Along with evidence, the lack of resources might add to the difficulty in charging an individual. Prosecutors are faced with an overload of cases; ultimately prosecutors are forced to prioritize their cases based on their resources and the evidence provided. The cases that are regarded are then considered for suspect detainment. Probable cause to detain suspects is undergone so that the case may proceed to trial. Typically an arraignment
If a suspect cannot afford an attorney the courts must appoint one for them, if they face a possibility of imprisonment. Until an attorney is assigned to their case and they have had an opportunity to consult with him, the police may not begin any questioning.
The criminal justice process and the criminal court system go hand in hand. The criminal justice process is a sequence of events that a person who is accused of a felony will progress through. This process varies from state to state or jurisdiction and varies according to the seriousness of a crime or whether the accused is a juvenile or an adult. Generally, the criminal justice process involves several specific stages; however, not every case will include each stage or even follow a certain sequence. According to Matthew Lippman’s Essential Criminal Law (2014), these stages include:
A1: Dollar General's main business strategy is to focus on being the leading distributors of consumable basics, with 30% of the merchandise at $1.00 or less. Dollar General believes in maintaining an assortment of consumable merchandise and making shopping for everyday items hassle free and simplistic.
In due process, each person is looked at as an individual. Or also, say that an officer got all the information that he needed to arrest someone, but he ended up arresting the wrong man, in due process, they would need proof of legal guilt and factual guilt to be convicted. Sometimes it is better to let a guilty man walk then to send an innocent man to jail. If a guilty man walks, he may change his life. Or he may commit another crime, in committing another crime, that is another chance to arrest him.
When an individual enters the criminal justice system, it always begins with the police. So in order for police to be involved in any situation, there has to be a crime committed or violation of any law which has been put in place by the government. As the police act as the enforcement agents of these laws, they are the first ones to be involved. There are four steps that police follows when there is a crime – the crime itself, the report of the crime, the investigation of the crime, and the arrest to finish this process – these are the very basic avenues which police follows.
I have chosen to use a criminal defense lawyer as my primary legal career for this discussion board. A criminal defense lawyer, is a lawyer who specializes in defending an individual or a company that has been charged with a crime. Criminal defense lawyers have to deal with many different circumstances. For instance, arrests, criminal charges, investigations, sentencing, appeals, and even post-trial issues. However, a lot of criminal defense lawyers will choose to specialize in a certain type of criminal defense. For instance, drug defense, or even DUI defense. Criminal defense lawyers often have to work out substantive issues in connection with their clients supposed crime. Many times criminal defense lawyers will be helping a client even before charges have been filed against them by
Next, comes prosecution of the defendant by the state attorney, then incitement, the filing of information by prosecution to decide whether to proceed to trial. Followed by arraignment, which is the plea of guilty or not guilty, pretrial detention, plea bargaining, trial, and sentencing (Process of Criminal Justice). For O. J. Simpson, this process started with the investigation of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. The same day the bodies were discovered, Simpson flew back from Chicago to Los Angeles. Upon his arrival, authorities took him into custody and began their questioning.
The United States Constitution gives us the right of due process under the Fifth Amendment. The right to an attorney is something that should never be taken away. So how do attorneys help their clients? What standards are set to protect them? There are strict guidelines that attorneys must follow to avoid legal misconduct. These standards are stated by the American Bar Association in the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct. It is very important that attorneys decide carefully before taking on a case for many reasons. They must remember that they have to carefully consider the needs and problems of their clients and uphold their ethical responsibilities to their profession and the criminal justice system. It is when a lawyer does not balance the needs of the client with the ethical aspects of his or her profession that misconduct can occur.
When the call comes in that a crime has been committed, the police are dispatched to the crime scene. When the police arrive on scene, they need to take control by apprehending any suspects and looking for witnesses/victims. If the scene is not safe, the first responders must secure the area. If anyone is hurt, they should call for medical personnel as soon as possible. The first police officer on scene is usually in charge until a criminal investigator arrives on scene. Depending on the crime committed, the crime scene could be as small as the interior room of a building or as large as the whole neighborhood. The whole crime scene area needs to be secure so that evidence is not tampered with by anyone.
The criminal investigation process starts at the initial crime scene with the first responders. The instigation of a crime scene includes the distribution of officers to an incident after they have been informed of a crime. These officers are called the first responders which consist of police officers, paramedics and firefighters. Investigations into Felonies(serious crimes) usually have three key stages: 1. Instigation and initial response – This involves the dispatch of officers to an incident after a report of a possible crime or felony and all operations carried out by the officers 2.
The criminal Justice system include agencies such as law enforcement, courts, and prosecution and defense attorneys. Once a crime has been committed it goes through the law enforce first which includes the police officers that investigate the crimes. Then based on evidence they make an arrest and the case goes to court in front of a jury. In court the prosecution and defense attorneys argues to the right of the client and the state. Finally based on the evidence presented and testimonies the alleged criminal goes to prison for however many years deemed fit by a judge.
