As I have mentioned, the Moffitt Cancer Center resides on the campus of the institution that will grant my degree. The Moffitt Cancer Center has been a site of previous supervised field experience requirements and is where I plan to fulfill my field experience credits. This center is ranked number six on U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals for Cancer with a vision to transform cancer care through service, science, and partnership. The ability to acquire training through this distinguished cancer center will be a tremendous privilege that I am immensely looking forward to.
The field of Oriental Medicine with a specialization in oncology and advanced pain management is of strong importance to me since cancer has touched the lives of people who are very dear to me.My maternal family is from Anniston, Alabama. Anniston is known as one of the most toxic cities in the United States due to the Monsanto’s Chemical Factory producing PCB (Polychlorinated biphenyls) and knowingly polluting the area. My grandfather died of lung and brain cancer from working in the chemical plant that produces PCB. My mother previously survived thyroid cancer 30 years ago and a cousin who resides in Anniston currently has terminal brain cancer. In addition, cancer is 33% higher in the African- American community than in other races.
Life’s experiences, work, and education have prepared me to further my education. I will achieve this goal with the ability to analyze situations, make informed decisions, and provide my patients with the best evidence based care possible. I will also have the ability to impact change in quality improvement, policy and procedure, and overall patient care with evidence based
On February 14th I spent a day doing something I never thought I would do in a million years, I went to hospice. I always thought I would hate hospice, but I actually didn’t mind it too much, it isn’t a job I see myself doing in the future but it is a job that I understand why people do it and why they enjoy it. During this observation I was touched by how much these nurses really seem to care for each of the patients that they have.
I have chosen to write about the constellation Cancer (The Crab). I chose Cancer because it is one of only a handful of constellations that I am actually able to identify in the night sky. Cancer is one of the twelve Zodiac constellations; people whose birthdays fall between June 21st and July 22nd have Cancer as their sign. Cancer is the Latin word for crab, and despite the fact that the constellation looks more like a lobster then a crab, it is still referred to as a crab. The constellation is visible from the northern hemisphere from late winter to early spring.
The purpose of this essay is to reflect upon the teamwork and communication within the multi- disciplinary environment of the theatre suite. I will follow a patient on their journey along the Patient pathway, from their arrival in the anaesthetic room, through to them being handed over to the recovery staff. The patient pathway is described by the Department of Health (2007) as a timeline, on which every event relating to treatment can be entered. Events such as consultations, diagnosis, treatment, medication, diet, assessment and discharge can be mapped on this timeline. In this essay, I will use the Johns 1994 mode of reflection. The purpose of reflection, as stated by Johns (1994) is to promote desirable practice through the practitioners understanding and learning about their lived experiences. Patient trust and confidentiality will be maintained throughout, the patient referred to as Mrs X and any details will be improvised.
A cancer registrar is an important aspect in the Health Information field. Maintaining a cancer registrar guarantees that healthcare facilities have precise and well-timed information of cancer patients while guaranteeing the accessibility of data for treatment and research. Cancer registrars have unique education requirements, qualifications and credentials, work settings, and job responsibilities. “It takes educated and knowledgeable registrars to ensure captured data are accurate, precise, and specific to the cancer site” (Journal of AHIMA, 2008). Cancer registrars is an exciting field to learn about and to be a part of.
There are numerous reasons as to why I want to pursue my dream of becoming a radiation therapist. The most important reason is because I love to help other people overcome any problem they are facing. However saving a patient’s life through radiation would be even more amazing. Not to mention, after obtaining the proper education, the salary I receive will be fairly high. Cancer has recently become a part of many families, including my own. I see what a few of my family members are going through and having to struggle with every single day in order to live to see another day, The struggles that they go through have opened my mind in many ways, I wish I was the one that they could come to for a chance of survival, but I can’t, so in order for me to help cancer patients fight for their lives, I will obtain the proper education, licenses, and possess the numerous skills needed by a radiation therapist..
The American Cancer Society is a volunteer-based organization that is present across the United States. Its main purpose is to raise money and awareness about the severity and prevalence of cancer. Cancer education and research is where most of the focus and monetary donations are used for. The American Cancer Society strives to fulfill their goal of “less cancer and more birthdays” across all generations and populations (ACS Inc., 2011).
It has made me realize that residency training in pathology will offer me a more varied and balanced career. It will give me a unique platform to bridge basic research and clinical medicine, while applying the latest scientific discoveries to improving human health. Pathology lets me directly be involved in many of the critical decisions that affect a patient’s life through continually educating those around us and at the same time being a vanguard for proper care
University of Virginia is my sole choice for scholastic development. In my capacity as a frontline nurse, I have laid the foundation for the focus of my research interests and feel that my performance, initiative, and dedication to my patients are genuine evidence of my ability to perform competently and enthusiastically in an academic research setting. I hope that with this degree I can incorporate DNP essentials in my practice and make a difference by focusing on patient experience. No other field could ever provide me with personal and professional satisfaction and I look forward with great purpose to contributing much more. Thank you for your time and
I am attending Baton Rouge General School of Radiologic Technology to pursue an Associates degree through Northwestern State University to become a licensed radiologic technologist. I chose this profession because I thoroughly enjoy helping others and making a difference in people’s lives. Radiologic technologists are expected to give efficient patient care while following the doctor’s order to proceed with the X-ray examination. Radiology is the most important role in healthcare because with out having X-rays, the surgeons could not see inside of the patient’s body to perform surgery. Doctors can not predict what is going on inside of a patient without having an X-ray. I am interested in this being my future career because
...eeds of the adult/gerontology population, especially within the context of palliative care. As nursing continues to shift towards an evidence-based approach in health care, I am also interested in participating in the synthesis and dissemination of research-based guidelines in palliative care. UCLA’s advanced practice nursing degree program is nationally recognized and the medical center is known for its care on the adult/geriatric population. My brief tenure at UCLA has been a rewarding experience and an opportunity to continue contributing to this institution as an advanced practice nurse in palliative care would be an honor. My goal to maximize the use of this valuable, but currently underutilized resource within the acute care setting is ultimately about helping patients achieve and maintain a quality of life that is both acceptable to them and their families.

My nursing career began 7 years ago at SSM on Medical Oncology Unit. I was certified in Chemotherapy and Wound Care. Although there were thirty staff nurses, only two of us were certified in wound care and five were chemotherapy certified. Besides caring for my medical-surgical patients, I was also responsible for administering chemotherapy and monitoring cancer patients as well as assessing, documenting, and recommend the appropriate treatments for different types of types of wounds, including surgical openings, ulcers, bed sores, feeding tube sites, and abscesses. I gained a diverse range of clinical skills in Emergency Department, Cardiology, Neurosurgery, and Orthopedic Surgery as floating was a staff nurse's requirement. Every nursing
Working with CAC for the past two years, has made me realize that this is the sort of thing I would like to dedicate my time to as often as I can in the future. Raising cancer awareness and money for cancer research is something that wi...
