The views of justice of John Rawls share a lot in common with Karl Marx's philosophical theories. First off, Rawls rejects the utilitarian viewpoint when it comes to justice. While utilitarianism would see justice as what is for the general good of society, Rawls would see justice as what is for the general good of everyone equally. Rawls' view of justice also stems from his equal liberty principle, which suggests that every human should be entitle to equal liberties in a just society. Without this principle, in Rawls' eyes no society can be considered just. Henceforth Rawls' placed a large burden on the shoulders of the state when it comes to ensuring these equal liberties for individuals. Rawls also would see the redistribution of wealth as fair. On the issue of college acceptance, the two of them possess very different views. While Hospers would argue that the college acceptance should prioritize those who can afford the education, Rawls, correctly, believes that everyone should be looked at equally regardless of income and background.
Robert Nozick argues in his Entitlement Theory that there are three main topics in the justice of holdings: the acquisition of ‘un-held things’, the transfer of holdings, and the rectification of injustice in holdings.1 Nozick’s theory of what makes a transfer of holdings ‘just’ should be rejected for two key reasons and the rectification of injustice of holdings should be rejected for two key reasons.
Robert Nozick in the excerpt from his book Anarchy, State and Utopia presents his ideas on why a government in power should not spread the wealth of the state among all of the residents. Nozick writes mainly in response to John Rawls’ A Theory of Justice in which Rawls focuses on the idea of the state working towards improving financially the lives of those that are in the worst conditions. To explain his point of view Nozick expounds on various concepts that provide a better understanding of the procedure that lead to him arriving at the conclusion that he did. This includes the entitlement theory of Nozick. In this paper I will explain how Nozick reaches the conclusion that redistributive justice should not take place along with a detailed look at the various major concepts of his theory. In addition, I will also provide my view on what John Rawls’s argument against Nozick’s theory might be. Finally, I will explain why I agree with John Rawl’s theory and present detailed reasoning.
In addition, Nozick is a classical liberalism, advocates civil liberties and political freedom with representative democracy under the rule of law and emphasizes economic freedom. Now, that is where the problems, when it comes to agreeing with Nozick’s way when it comes to distribution of wealth because I don’t believe in an emphasis on economic freedom. While having the main focus on economic freedom can cause political issues with in the society, and what I mean by political issues is basically government problems. Many people complaining about government support, such as welfare, job assistance, social security, and etc. A society without those things diminish in so many ways, starting with population decline to reduction of property. Another thing that’s crazy is that I do not agree with is that he believes taxation for anything other than protection is unjust. Nozick states, “Not all actual situations are generated in accordance with the two principles of justice in holdings: the principle of justice in acquisition and the principles of justice in transfer.”, which means people only get distribution or benefits of wealth if its by legitimate means. These legitimate means are move by the specific principles. This is one another reason I don’t agree with Mr. Nozick because legitimate means should not determine your distribution of wealth.
John Rawls divided up his theory into four distinct parts; the first part consisted of his belief of primary goods, next is the formation of principles of justice, third is the institutionalization of society, and finally the last part of his theory is the actual workings within society . Rawls theory of justice is idealistic because the original position cannot be forced upon individuals in the real world, instead individuals of the real world must put themselves into the original position. With so many self-interested human beings in our world, a society that completely honored the rights of their brethren is difficult to imagine, but events in our history when the disadvantages of the oppressed were finally fully realized by the privileged have proved that not only is altruism natural to us but a society who honors it will succeed. However now, not only have we begun settling matters of civil rights, but areas of disparity in the lives of women, the disabled, the LGBTQI community and immigrants across the country. So as I reap from the benefits of that movement, I myself cannot help but strive to attain those opportunities that I could never have dreamed of 80 years ago and live a life that supports those around me so that as society can improve as a whole. I will begin this paper by making clear that this is a critique of Rawls and his difference principle and not an attempt at a neutral analysis. I have read the Theory of Justice and I have found it wanting in both scope and realism. The difference principle proposed by Rawls, his second principle is the focus of my critique. While this paper will not focus solely on the second principle, all analysis done within this essay are all targeted towards the scope of influence that Rawls treats the second principle with.

John Rawls never claimed to know the only way to start a society, but he did suggest a very sound and fair way to do so. He based his just scenario on two principles of justice. His first principle of justice was that everyone should have the same rights as others. His following policy decision was that in the event of any inequalities, they should be to the benefit to everybody, and available to all people in the society.
