The Relationship Between שבירת הלוחות, תמוז י׳׳ז and the Summer Season
Throughout history, תמוז י׳׳זhas been a day prone to tragedies befalling the Jewish nation. The משנה in תענית explains that 5 major tragedies befell בני ישראל on that day. The first was the שבירת הלוחות which occurred as a result of בני ישראל’s construction of the עגל. The second was that the קרבן תמיד was temporarily suspended during the first בית המקדש. The third tragedy was when the Romans broke through the walls of ירושלים as a final step before destroying the בית המקדש. The fourth was when Apostumos burned the Torah, and the fifth was when an idol was placed in the בית המקדש ( Mishnah Taanis: Chaf vav, Rambam, Perush Hamishnayos, as cited in Eider, 1978).
It is quite perplexing to learn that each of these tragedies occurred on the exact same day. One must delve into the Torah to determine the significance of the day or season in which תמוז י׳׳ז occurs. By studying the portion of שבירת הלוחות, the first of the five events, inside the Chumash, one can come to appreciate the reason why the day has been conducive to such tragedies within our nation. In שמות 32:1-3, it chronicles the events leading up to the חטא העגל which resulted in the catastrophe of שבירת הלוחות. After 'ה gave the torah to בני ישראל in Sivan, משה went up the mountain to receive the לוחות from 'ה. משה informed בני ישראל that he would remain on the mountain for 40 days and that he would return in the morning of the 40th day. משה meant that he would remain on the mountain for a full 40 days, but בני ישראל mistakenly assumed that the day of משה’s ascent was considered th...

Additionally, one must be cognizant of the idea that תמוז י׳׳זdoes not represent complete destruction. There are three weeks between תמוז י׳׳זand ט' אב in which one can stop all negative behavior and serve 'ה correctly. One should also note in regard to תמוז י׳׳ז that when negative events occur, they are often temporary and they should be taken as a message of potentially improved outcomes. With proper effort on our part, the seemingly negative things can really become a means to a greater, more positive end.

The Exodus of the Israelites is the equivalent to our present day Fourth of July or Bastille Day to the French. Israelite writers discuss the Exodus the most out of any other event in history. The story of the Exodus is one of the most famous stories of the Old Testament. Three of the most significant aspects of the story of Exodus are the call of Moses, the use of plagues as miracles, and the Passover.

Takashi Murakami is an incredible, talented Japanese artist whose modern artwork has attracted even the biggest names in the industry for collaborations, such as Kanye West and Louis Vuitton. Although Murakami does not think of his artwork as Pop Art, his work does have a Pop Art feel to it. To people without the knowledge of history behind his work, they will think that his work is happy and colorful, but behind the bright colors and the happy caricatures, Murakami tells a story that was inspired by the struggles of discriminated people.
Working as an IT analyst at Maritz at the time, Melisa and her team were the first to know about the upcoming disaster. “At work we started talking about it well ahead of time” (Allen). The talk was about the Y2K bug which was a problem in the coding of computerized systems that was projected to create havoc in computers and computer networks around the world at the beginning of the year 2000. This was because until the 1990s, many computer programs were designed to abbreviate four-digit years as two digits in order to save memory space. These computers could recognize “98” as “1998” but would be unable to recognize “00” as “2000,” perhaps interpreting it to mean 1900. Many feared that when the clocks struck midnight on January 1,
The terrorist attack on the World Trade Center has long been described as an act of war and a tremendous defeat for the United States. The world watched in horror at the mass destruction happening in our country. Fourteen years later since that dreadful event, many people of Madera gathered around Friday – to share condolences to those who lost loved ones and friends. September 11th, otherwise known as Patriot Day, this day was designated in memory of the nearly three thousand who died.
The stock market crash on October 29, 1929 set in motion many events leading to the Great Depression. Although this day is considered the trigger to the massive economic fallout, the American and global economies had been in turmoil for six months prior to Black Tuesday, and many other factors contributed to what’s known as the worst economic crash in modern history.
