Aretha Franklin is a well known pop, R&B, and gospel singer. She has been nicknamed “The Queen of Soul” and is an internationally known artist and a symbol of pride in the African American community. Her popularity soared in 1967 when she released an album containing songs “I Never Loved a Man”, “Respect”, and “Baby I Love You.” Throughout her career she has achieved fifteen Grammy Awards, Lifetime Achievement Award, National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Legend Awards, and many Grammy Hall of Fame Awards. Although she has all these accomplishments and awards there are other reasons that have driven Franklin to fame and landed her on the front cover of Time magazine on June 28, 1968. The reasons I believe allowed Aretha Franklin to become so successful are the following: Her family’s involvement with religion, the inspiring people that surrounded her, and the pain she suffered.

Talking to Mina Amini who is 52 years old helped me more to realize how the women’s sport was about 40 years ago. She is a midwife and worked for more than 30 years in a hospital. She married once and has two daughters. One of them is a professional soccer player. Mina has never been a member of a professional sport team and she has never thought about being an athlete as a carrier but she finds Yoga very relaxing and interesting. She enjoys doing yoga because she believes that her job is very stressful and makes her nervous. So this sport can help her to manage and deal with the stress. Ibn Battuta, a world traveler, a writer, a lawyer. All of these occupations shaped the life and journey that we would share about in the rihla. The stories of his travels and why he started his journey in the first place are in this book, rihla. These journeys were not cheep and came with a very high price. Thankfully there were people along the way to give a helping hand to Ibn Battuta when he was in need. While some of these methods of traveling were dangerous it never seemed to stop him or slow him down.
