When I was growing up, sports were always a tremendous part of my life. I participated in soccer, lacrosse, and football as a child and I never knew how lucky I was to have the opportunity to be apart of these activities. I rarely took into account the struggles children with disabilities encountered on an everyday basis until I volunteered for the Miracle League of Plymouth. The Miracle League gives all disabled children, regardless of their abilities, the chance to play baseball once a week. My buddy I was partnered with changed my perspective on life. Her name was Porscha, and was bound to a wheelchair, but always had a smile on her face. Porscha couldn't hit the ball on the tee alone, and needed my help doing so. Every time she knocked
The first team I ever played for was Tobers Party Store. For some kids growing up, baseball was just another way to pass time during the summer, away from the grind of public school. For me it was everything. From the moment my eyes snapped open in the morning, until the time I slipped away to sleep, I had baseball on my mind. I loved to play baseball, watch baseball, and talk baseball. Nothing else mattered. Eating and sleeping were just "necessary evils" that took precious time away from my hobby. I anxiously awaited the day when I would be drafted into the professional ranks after a successful college career. Bubbling with excitement, I would explain my inevitable career path to anyone who would listen. Of course, the responses were less than empowering. "Do you know how good you have to be?", and the tried and true " Go to college and get a real job", were two of the more popular sentiments that the "opposition" hurled at me. Naturally, in my 10 year old mind, I knew they were delusional and I would prove them wrong.
when I was ten years old I lost my grandpa, it was a very bad experience for me but it made me stronger. I remember when he taught me how to catch a baseball, ride a bike, mow the lawn and a lot of other things that I will forever cherish in my heart. the memory I will never forget though is when he taught me everything I needed to know about baseball. we would always go outside together and he would do certain agilities with me to build my stamina, teach me how to catch a pop-fly and he would work on pitching with me which is actually one of my main position that I play today. baseball was a big part of my grandpas life and he always wanted me to play In the major leagues. once he passed away my motives for playing in the major leagues increased.
I love baseball. I love to play baseball and read baseball comics. I have read a lot of Japanese baseball comics, and almost all Japanese baseball comics’ heroes were fastball pitchers. This comic’s hero was a typical typed pitcher in Japanese baseball comics. He could throw the fastest fastball in his team, and became the ace pitcher of his team when he was a freshman.
I have many things that I love in this life, one of those things is wrestling. I have been wrestling for seven years and I have developed quite the passion and love for it. Wrestling has always been an interesting sport for me. Growing up in Oregon I watched my uncles wrestle in high school. I watched both of them win their state tournament in their respective weight classes, this is one of my fondest memories of my childhood. One of them went on to wrestle division one, I thought this was the coolest thing in the world. I looked up to my uncles and wanted to be just like them. I did not always wrestle though. The process of pursing my dream as of becoming a wrestler started of with basketball, then went to a rocky start, then being on Worland High School wrestling team.

Studies have shown time and time again that playing sports can be beneficial to children and we also believe this to be true. Many people still think that sports cause “too many injuries”, or coaches “are not fair enough”, but adolescents will experience these things all throughout their lives because injury can happen anywhere and they will not always be the best at what they are doing. Sports are beneficial to the youth because they can teach children and teens important life skills, help them maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle, all while improving their mental health.
I spend six days per week for twelve months straight practicing catching, throwing, and hitting a softball. My friends call me crazy when I have to leave their house at ten o’clock on a Friday night to go play in a midnight madness softball tournament. They think I am insane for travelling to away, out-of-state tournaments each weekend. However, ten years of competitive, travel softball and nearly nine hundred games have molded me into the person I am today. Many people do not understand why I spend the majority of my time playing competitive softball, and they fail to recognize that my entire identity is a result of this sport. However, I am aware that I would not be who I am without it.

People often wonder why sports are so important and how they impact great populations. Sports have not always been a staple in society or a part of the “American Dream,” however; they have proven to have significant influences like how a team winning the World Series can bring tears to the eyes of an entire city, or how Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier to become the first African American to play in a MLB game sparked a generation of segregation. The power of sports extends further than the scoreboard and can bring a nation or a race together during times of strife.
Participating in a sport at an early age can be essential to the overall growth process during a child’s upbringing. Whether the participation is through some sort of organized league or just getting together amongst friends and playing, the lessons learned from this can help teach these kids and provide a positive message to them as they develop. There is a certain point, however, when organized sports can hinder progress, which is when adults get too involved and forget about the underlying reason to why they are helping. While adult involvement is necessary, adult involvement can sometimes send the wrong message to children when they try to make participation become more than just about fun and learning. According to Coakley (2009), “organized sports are worth the effort put forth by adults, as long as they do what is in the best interest of their children and put that thought ahead of their own agenda” (Coakley, p. 151). This is a valid argument because once adults put themselves in front of the children and their values, it needs to be re-evaluated as to why they first got involved in the beginning. Partaking in organized sport and activity from a young age can be beneficial to the overall development of children, as long as decisions actions are made in the best interest of the children and not stemming from ulterior motives of adults.
My dad would always tell me it’s not good to play video games, because they cannot help you, but baseball can help you succeed in life. This really changed my view on what baseball potentially has. I became more dedicated and committed to the sport, Baseball. I never played any other sport, and I started progressively doing more baseball each year. I have tried extremely hard to keep playing baseball, because it will come to an end at some point, but hopefully it will be later in my life instead of sooner.
In my life I have played baseball with more people, played in more states, and played on more fields than there are minutes in a day. That’s a lot of baseball. This sport means more than just playing a game. Throughout this sport I have had to perform in tough situations and I have had to come up clutch in key situations. I have had to pick everyone’s head up and become the leader when we needed it and more than anything I have had to watch my team and self fail. Baseball is more than just hitting a ball with a bat and outscoring the other team. This sport makes you learn key life skills such as teamwork, failure and success, confidence, performing in clutch situation, and most of all taught me to always keep my head up.
Sports play a very important role in my life ever since I could walk. My interests in playing sports began at the age of three as my parents signed me up for soccer, flag football, basketball, and lacrosse. First grade started my competitive edge as I began to play for travel teams in various sport tournaments. This competitive edge transferred from the sports field to the classroom having teachers and coaches helping me be the best I can be. Sports have continually well-shaped and defined my character by teaching me how to accept a win from working hard, also how a loss is an opportunity to learn and fix mistakes.

In Birmingham, the city has sought to encourage under represented groups to take part in sport. One group is composed of partially sighted people with sight ranging from just above total blindness to the top end of partial sight. Their main difficulty with indoor arena is the light and the colour of surface and ball. As noted by a player: 'It's just that, when they build anything to do with sport, it's always built for able-bodied people anyway. And you don't think of the light for sighted people or the type of surface for sighted people. I mean, just to look at the surface and the light would be ideal for us'. The video is presenting another evidence with the barriers that specifically target women. And even though the video is from 1980, it seems those barriers are pretty much still in place. Whether it's the practical constraint with child care and transport arrangement, or the inequalities in terms of salary between men and women, rending the access to sport facilities more difficult for women. In the discussion following the video we recognise that there is a better childcare provision today than in the eighties. Also more women work outside the home and have access to an income. However, the other factors such as social class and race and ethnicity add to the fact that not all women have access to childcare, transport or income. This injury lasted the duration of my junior year, and I was unable to play. I remained a part of the team, going to every practice and going to every game, but it was during this time that I truly began to shift my focus toward being a student. My senior year, I was faced with a decision that resulted in me walking down to the athletic center that brisk fall morning. I decided that my days of playing baseball were finished. It was one of the most difficult decisions of my life, yet motivated me and empowered me in ways I never thought possible. Sport is seen by many in low socioeconomic standing that sport is the way out of the ghetto, as becoming a professional athlete increases one's social and economic standing. Advancement through sport causes and individual to change their role in society, from a feared African American thug, to an admired wealthy athlete. Although sport can provide a means of effective upward mobility other means should not be neglected based merely upon one's race.
