Creating a Coherent Workplace With Minorities Introduction Over the past year’s confrontation with minorities has become one of the largest topics of discussion. While many have noticed an uprise of discrimination to minorities had become more present to society. Specifically the work environment with minorities. When I studied “The Wealth of Nations,” from Chapter 10, Part 1 by Adam Smith, I began to think about if the workplace and minorities had a connection. Smith stated, “Where common labourers earn four to five shillings a week, mason and bricklayers frequently earn seven and eight...” Specific jobs require specialized skills that hiring individuals that specialize in the skills are most fit for the position of work. Companies find many different ways to make their companies diverse in expansion and that has to do with the highest employees that qualify for the position. Not only that, but other cases such as African- American, Hispanic, and gay have been all attacked by similar scenarios. By hiding this “type” of discrimination, companies have found a loophole to allow discrimination which they call “covering.” Covering is the “new” way to censor what individuals say or do. Covering causes anger and cutting all diverse sides out of a business and ignoring any opinion. Researchers have found that 63% of employees that have a Hispanic origin have “altering appearance, limiting conversation topics, or changing your behavior.” (Lewis) While companies shadow this behavior it’s became one of the largest debates whether to try refraining from the behavior or to allow the companies to have a say as to what type of work place it should provide. By doing that it can cause companies to lose revenue and potentially going out of business and forcing to close down the company. Which will cause more issues later down the
