We do not lower the amount of service members that are deployed, therefore, impacting military families and children constantly. The child maltreatment cases with military families are greater than the general population. (Porter, 2013). Military-connected children are exposed to an unusual combination of stressors, especially during periods when combat deployments are frequent, long, and dangerous jobs (Institute of Medicine 2013). Therefore making our military families and children part of a vulnerable population. Rebuilding or establishing temporary roles creates confusion and stress on the family, which may influence maltreatment. The impact for the family to re adapt to its family dynamics is highly stressful which influence maltreatment towards children in the military community. During reintegration, role and boundary negotiations and reestablishment of relationships are challenging (Doyle & Peterson, 2005; Pincus et al., 2008). Families experiencing, multiple problems, including non-traditional, inner city families dealing with poverty other issues contributing to family disruption. Therefore, as a society we have failed to recognize the military families as a vulnerable population. Soldiers and families requesting mental health services has reached well beyond the capacity o f the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs’ (VA) health care facilities and outpatient resources (Taanielian et al., 2008). Military children are showing a need for similar amount of services like an active service member.
