This study focuses on arts organizations as change agents that utilize art as their primary practice to instigate a positive transformation within the Mid-Hudson Valley. Provided that elements such as geography, financial situation, quality of education, crime rates and diversity create an ecosystem, communities located in this region of the State of New York experience adverse circumstances related to these mundane elements. Present administrative practices were considered through this study to further understand how these arts organizations established themselves within their communities. Considering these elements, a total of five organizations, ranging in artistic disciplines that originated in the Mid-Hudson Valley are the main subjects of this narrative. Their particular perspective and structural planning to assess many of the needs they classified in their communities are the basis for non-urban areas to be studied. The Clay Arts Center, the Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh, the Center for Creative Education, The Rockland Music Conservatory and the Wallkill River Art School have placed themselves as agents of change within their communities. Although they function like most non-profit do, their unique placement and responsibility considers addressing challenges and opportunities specific to their organizational entity, community and programming influences while also working towards a financial balance of maintaining funding and generating means by which to continue their mission. It is visionary organizations that deal with a great sense ambiguity and a driven passion within the artistic field that have brought about the use of art as a vehicle for

My goal for this paper is to give a practical critique and defense of what I have learned in my time as a Studio Art Major. During my time here I have learned that Pensacola Christian college’s definition of art “art is the organized visual expression of ideas or feelings” and the four parts of Biblosophy: cannon, communication, client, and creativity. Along with Biblosophy I have studied Dr. Frances Schaeffer 's criteria for art, seeing how the technical, and the major and minor messages in artwork. All of these principles are great but they do need to be refined.

The island of Manhattan was consolidated into the greater New York City in 1898. Because of this the city was transformed from a nineteenth century seaport with cobblestone streets into a twentieth century metropolis of skyscrapers and subways. The artists of the Ashcan movement saw this changing society in human terms. They saw this in a light which depicted the interaction of so many different cultures which were being thrust together. They documented these changes on a level which the ordinary person could understand. Because of the Ashcan School we have a picture of society which one really cannot understand amidst the overpowering spectacle of overpowering buildings and increasing technology.4

We encounter art everyday. Art is paintings and sculptures, music and dance, film and photography. It is also fashion designing and architecture, novels and magazines. These seemingly different things have one thing in common – they are all ways in which humans convey themselves. For thousands of years, humans have used symbols to tell a story or describe a struggle. Art is the use of these symbols, symbols that represent us in some distinct way.
Although The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) of Boston was the only place dedicated to contemporary art for more than 50 year, it is having trouble growing into a pillar of the art industry (Reavis, 2010, pg.1). The main problem is the organization’s powerless leadership. According to Peter Northouse (2015), leaders must possess an effective influencing power in order to motivate followers (pg.47). The leaders prior to Jill Medvedow failed to get the local community fondly interested in contemporary art or an environment that showcases it. Therefore, there are no investors, donors, or patrons breaking down the door to fund or see the exhibits presented in the old

There is an abundant amount of facts and information that supports this statement. When the religious art leaks out of the religious community and into the broader world of culture, it is one of the ways the meaning of the art can evolve. This is also an opportunity for the art to draw the world to religion. Moreover, artistic reinterpretation of sacred imagery can help keep religion honest. The church has always been enriched by the tension that comes with diversity in art. Art is communication and effective art communicates effectively to any group at any level.
