In almost 100 years, Miami City Hospital, led by civic leader and physician Dr. James M. Jackson, has developed from a small, 13-bed hospital to a comprehensive health systems with multiple clinics and hospitals, now named Jackson Health System (JHS). JHS has become a famous healthcare provider known for its cutting-edge care and highly-trained physicians. Even though several things have not remained the same, one thing still does: Jackson does not stop being a vital part of South Florida community, giving state-of-the-state-art very compassionate care to any person that walks through its door. On June 25, 1918 Miami Hospital opened its door, taking the place of the deteriorating Society Hospital on Biscayne Boulevard. The hospital opened in the midst of an influenza epidemic and was quickly filled to capacity. In 1919, the first X-rays at the hospital were taken by Dr. A.F. Kaspar on patient with a broken leg. Approximately three years later, an emergency room was set up “to take care of the many accidents arising from congested traffic and industrial activities,” according to a newspaper article at the time. Jackson. The Miami City Commission changed the name of the hospital to James M. Jackson Memorial in his honor. The hospital had a modern obstetrical delivery room equipped with an anesthesia system and two delivery tables in 1929. The city’s first cancer clinic was taken place at Jackson, which was the only hospital in the area or region to provide radium medical care for cancer patients in 1946. Moreover, it shows that the hospital has a higher ability to meet its cash obligation because it has more security compared to other hospitals. Funding allows hospitals to control funds and limit investments. Not-for-profit organizations help provide more services and margin of safety. Therefore, creditors look for a margin of safety so that the community that financed a small portion of total financing can be returned to the owners by leveraging. Capitalization ratio measures the funds that were borrowed and the assets that have been used. The coverage ratio measures the number that time they fixed financial charges. Springfield General Hospital (SGH) is committed to high quality healthcare for patients, and providing tools to support physicians, nurses and pharmacists. SGH leadership approved the computerized physician order entry (CPOE) system as a solution to reduce prescription errors, and the results of the CPOE project are disappointing. The data show increased prescribing errors after implementing the CPOE; resulting in increased costs for adverse drug events, rather than the planned cost reduction (Spector, 2013). This change management plan provides the SGH board of directors and executive management team pragmatic steps to increase quality for patients by assessing the root issue of hospital

The cost of Medical equipment plays a significant role in the delivery of health care. The clinical engineering at Victoria Hospital is an important branch of the hospital team management that are working to strategies ways to improve quality of service and lower cost repairs of equipments. The team members from Biomedical and maintenance engineering’s roles are to ensure utilization of quality equipments such as endoscope and minimize length of repair time. All these issues are a major influence in the hospital’s project cost. For example, Victory hospital, which is located in Canada, is in the process of evaluating different options to decrease cost of its endoscope repair. This equipment is use in the endoscopy department for gastroenterological and surgical procedures. In 1993, 2,500 cases where approximately performed and extensive maintenance of the equipment where needed before and after each of those cases. Despite the appropriate care of the scope, repair requirement where still needed. The total cost of repair that year was $60,000 and the repair services where done by an original equipment manufacturers in Ontario.

Between the months of August and November of 1918, Spanish influenza spread quickly across the United States and around the world in epidemic proportions. The disease was thought to have been brought from country to country by sea-faring vessels passing through major port cities around the world, with illness striking men of French troops, the British Royal Navy, civilians in America, and more. The Public Health Service sanitation officer and member of the First Navy District, Dr. William M. Bryan, was aware of the conditions in Boston and was worried by them, where hot, dusty, and dry conditions exacerbated the problem, forcing sailors and soldiers into crowded conditions in Boston, where the close conditions and poor housing aided in the quick spread of influenza from person to person (23). Although influenza itself did not cause the deaths, but caused the pneumonia which did cause deaths, the number of deaths were still striking and rising. The deaths of three men in one afternoon in Quincy, Massachusetts caused the public to take notice. Bostonís church closed on September 22 to keep the public separated from each other (33). The disease proceeded to cause death in large numbers throughout the country. At one point, Philadelphia was stricken with 289 deaths within 24 hours(71).
Although it’s still unknown exactly where the specific strain of influenza that caused the pandemic came from, the 1918 flu was first observed in Europe, the U.S., and parts of Asia before spreading around the world in a matter of months. Spain was one of the earliest countries to be hit by the disease, giving it the name the Spanish Flu, despite the fact that it wasn’t isolated in one place. An estimated 20 million to 50 million victims were killed by the flu, though other estimates run as high as 100 million. It’s impossible to know exact numbers due to the lack of medical records kept at the time. Surprisingly, many of these victims were previously healthy, young adults that were normally resistant to that type of contagious disease. Like many other illnesses during this time, doctors had no idea what caused the flu or how to treat it because there were no effective vaccines or drugs to treat the flu. Making matters worse, World War l had left most of America with a shortage of physicians, and many of those available came down with the flu themselves. Schools and homes had to be used as makeshift hospitals run by medical students because hospitals in some areas were so crammed with patients. The public health departments imposed quarantines and ordinances in an attempt to confine the spread of the disease. Citizens were ordered to wear

The case manager needs to gather a lot of information about a patient from different sources to identify the best care plan for the patient. From the patient hospital chart the case manager must review what diet the patient is on, review what lines/drains they have and anticipated removal date, and if the patient is ambulating to decide when the patient is ready to go home. The case manager must also take note of the patient diagnosis and read the notes from the physician, nurse, and other members of the team to determine how well they are healing. Most importantly the case manager must gather information from the patient and their family to get a good idea of the conditions of which the patient will be going home to and if they have support. The resources that are available for the case manager are unlimited. The risk assessment that Sanford has
