Mexican-Americans in United States and Politics "We need a Mexican but it’s more important that he be American" This quote, taken from the play Los Vendidos by Luis Valdez, well illustrates the ambivalence and hypocrisy Anglos have projected towards Mexicans for the last two centuries. Specifically, this quote refers to the United States government needing a "brown face" in the crowd at one of their meetings to showcase their supposed support and inclusion of Mexican-Americans in the U.S. However, it is more important that the "brown face" act American, or embody Anglo characteristics deemed to be more reputable and civilized. Valdez’s play showcases an important theme in Mexican-American history and still today which, as the title implies, is that Mexicans and Mexican Americans have been forced to sell, or disregard their culture, language, and ideals for Anglocized ones in order to become citizens of the United States. Moreoever, their presence in history has been romanticized or has gone unnoticed by American citizens. By examining the characters and dialogue in Valdez’s work Los Vendidos, along with complementary written and oral historical accounts, I will first describe the stereotypes and racism Mexican-Americans have endured both historically and presently. Secondly, I will detail how the Chicano’s struggle for equal rights in education, workforce, and politics, has been thwarted by the Anglo Americans’ desire to "mold" or "control" Chicano’s destiny in the United States and maintain them as second-class citizens. Finally, I will argue that even those of Mexican descent that have attempted to assimilate themselves into American culture still face an insurmountable task due to the racism that clouds the cultural len... ... middle of paper ... ...e in America have tried to shape them into something different. One of the last phrases uttered in Valdez’s play is a poignant display of this fact: "We are not robots or machines. God help us to be men and women." It should come as no surprise then that the whitest, most Anglocized Mexican-American model was, in fact, a robot. Works Cited: Martinez, Oscar J. Harvest of the Empire is a valuable tool to gaining a better understanding of Latinos. This book helps people understand how varied Latino’s in the United States are. The author also helped give insight as to how Americans reacts to differences within itself. It does this by giving a description of the struggles that every Latino immigrant faced entering the United States. These points of emphasis of the book were explained thoroughly in the identification of the key points, the explanation of the intersection of race, ethnicity, and class, in addition to the overall evaluation of the book.

In the essay “Blaxicans and Other Reinvented Americans” written by Richard Rodriguez, Rodriguez argues that race should not identify an American, but instead, a person’s culture should portray their full identity. As a matter of fact, people like Americans, are judged by how they look or dress, but in reality, they can really appear to be something else. In the essay, Rodriguez treats himself as Chinese stating,“I answered that I am Chinese and that is because I live in a Chinese city and because I want to be Chinese” (Lines 163-165). To specify, Rodriguez has assimilated into the culture thriving for new experiences and conveying a message that is based on his knowledge and calling the Chinese culture his “home”. His actions, in other words,

Southwest has done what others in its industry seem to struggle to do, which is to make flying fun. This has been the cornerstone for how the Southwest operates, thinks, and plans. Many of the policies, procedures, and practices Southwest has used are aimed directly at providing patrons with a unique, fun, and enjoyable experience. This value and the effort Southwest has made to place customers at the forefront of its plans and strategy, has paid off as the company is one of the most popular and well-respected in the transportation industry.
The work environment at Southwest is an informal culture with motivated and energized employees. On board, the flight attendants often joke with the passengers, and are allowed to ad-lib their own announcements. They have even been found hiding in luggage compartments to surprise passengers. The airplanes are all Boeing 737s, and Southwest is updating the interior of the planes this year.
is among the largest airlines. As at January 2018, it had a market capitalization of 22.5 billion dollars. It operates both in the U.S and internationally competing with Delta directly. The two airlines target the same groups of customers, customers of the upper middle class and individuals of high net worth as well as travellers who travel frequently for business. They are both known to be premier airlines which offer services of high quality. United is also a founding member of the Star Alliance which is a direct competitor of SkyTeam Alliance where Delta belongs. United is also the largest carrier in the U.S and serves every part of Asia (Negarten, 2018). The Southwest Airlines has continued to thrive in the industry as it takes the share of the market away from the other airlines that are thriving like Delta. As of January 2018, it had a market capitalization of 38.21 billion. It has been offering customer service that is friendly and flights that are less costly as well as limiting its flights to routes with higher revenues. It also uses its Boeing 737 fleet for every route to minimize expenses. Due to the success it has achieved, other airlines have had to change routes, reduce prices as well as amenities in order to compete. However, compared to Delta, the Southwest Airline is generally new and its target is on the fliers from the middle-class level instead of the travellers of the business class. It depends heavily on the American market as opposed to Delta which is an international player. The American Airlines Group is a holding company for the Us Airways and American Airline. It caters for the upper middle class and the travellers travelling frequently for business which is the same group targeted by Delta. It is known for a loyalty program for the customers that is one of the best. It also has a strong image for entertainment for onboard and a strong new image which came about after the merger between U.S airways

providing a more professional service. Instead, southwest everyone always treat employees properly with their hearts, and they do it not because the company requires them to, but because they want to. This is part of the spirit of the Southwest.
Since Southwest Airlines offers low fares for its passengers, it is a huge opportunity for the company due to the economic changes. Since the low economy, more consumers are searching for low fares due to the inability to afford expensive tickets and long
