CHAPTER THREE
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1. Introduction
This chapter will explain chronological way to do the full research by using different research methodologies. The purpose of study will be explained by the appropriate philosophy in a right approach and the pattern of the reach will be discussed by the researcher thoroughly in this chapter. This approach will be a combination of data collection procedures using both primary and secondary sources, sampling methods, strategy of the research. Every research has some limitations and this chapter will also discuss the limitation of the study by detecting it and comparing with different approaching methods which can be used.
3.2. Data Analysis Method
Qualitative and Quantitative these are the two types of approach to the any research analysis for the any data which can be used in research. The research which only uses the numbers to do the research analysis is called Quantitative Research and the research which uses the words, units of the analysis of the collection data and the visual images is Qualitative Research. Quantitative Research is also known about its tending to link with passivism but on the other side, Qualitative Research focused and worked with the association of interpretive. Moreover, the contrast between involvement and lack of involvement respectively are associated by Qualitative data and Quantitative data analysis method (Denscombe, Approach to analysis: quantitative and qualitative research, 2010).
The purpose of the study is analyzing the issues of Supply Chain Management which is also known as SCM. The purpose of the study is to analyzing how Supply Chain Management works for Tesco. This study also includes direct involvement relationship between the co...

3.9. SUMMARY
In this chapter research methodology is associated with the approach of analyzing and explanation of whole research. There is other ways to conduct the research by the researcher. The way of conducting the research should be determined by the researcher in this chapter by explaining all the related logic and explanation. Supply Chain Management has a great impact on today’s success of company. It also develops the organizational performance of Tesco. The researcher follow the qualitative research method to collect the data and for analyzing these data. It includes a survey with 20 questionnaires in 100 groups of people following with 10 face to face interviews. Most of the people from this group are the employees, managers and few customers. Most of the data is collected from the primary source which makes the accuracy and analyzing strength higher.
There are two types of research that can be conducted in research studies, these are qualitative and quantitative (Newman, 2011). Qualitative research is a process that uses detailed oriented methodology that tries to achieve a profound knowledge or understanding of specific incident and circumstance, wh...
The aim of this paper is to explore and critically analysing two research articles. The critical analysis will explain the importance of the study, evaluate design and research method used in those articles. To identify any gaps it will provide the literature review in those researches and possibility for the new study. The project plan, for the possible research will be developed on a potential gaps and the essay will finish with the conclusion.
Qualitative and quantitative methods allow researchers to investigate, explore and inquire the nature of the phenomenon being studied. It is important that the researcher develops a clear understanding of the problem and design a plan to investigate it (Cresswell, 1998, para. 1). There are a variety of research methods; nevertheless, it is important to consider which research method is appropriate for the study. Qualitative research focuses on human experiences while quantitative research relies on numbers, measurements, and testing. Nevertheless, qualitative and quantitative methods use similar approaches to conduct research and collect data. For example, observations and interviews are approaches used in both research designs; however, the approaches are used and viewed otherwise. This will be discussed later in the paper.
For everything that occurs, there will somehow be something that caused the action to happen. It is more of a cause and effect ideal or simple a reaction to an action. In terms of research academics, independent and dependent variables are concepts or attributes to certain things that occur such as drug use, crime, or domestic abuse. For example, stress or other personal problems may lead to someone to use drugs. Also, poverty may lead someone to commit crime. In addition, a power controlled individual may cause a partnership to suffer physical or verbal abuse.
Different styles of research are employed in research to safeguard that the facts are acquired to permit examiners to find resolution to the principal queries for the study correctly, therefore, evading uncertainty ( ). Acquiring relevant proof encompasses stipulating the type of proof mandatory in answering the query. Methodological designs encompass logical complications; therefore, matters of sampling, information gathering methods, and queries are secondary to the type of method used in research. Strategies are often compared with quantitative and qualitative research methods. Research and collective studies are often observed as principal specimens of quantitative research and are evaluated compared to the flaws and strong point of numerical, examination, and quantitative research methods ( ).
According to Smith (1983) quantitative research is to explain, predict and develop laws that can be universally applied and Qualitative research is the interpretation and understanding of what people give to their situation. The researchers clearly stated the purpose of their studies, aim, objectiv...
The main area of focus in this article is on the evolution to a successful business model of Supply-chain management. About two decades ago there were the “traffic” managers with a sole responsibility of transferring freight to outside world. After that came the physical distribution management which was broadened to logistics management. Then the advent of supply-chain management made the transportation distribution and logistics professionals are the key in transforming into an effective business process. The Supply-chain management incorporates the activity of moving goods from raw-materials stage to making it available to the end-user covering the procedures of sourcing and procurement, production scheduling, order processing, inventory management, transportation warehousing, customer service and an information system to monitor all the activities.
Stewart and Kamins (1993) emphasize that the methodology increases the usefulness of more powerful evidence and when gathering data, the methodology tends to add to the quality of the research. Research, moreover, tends to be classified as primary research and secondary research, and both of these would be used to complement each other. This research uses primary research as the main method and using secondary research to complement it, in order to gain suitable data and information to satisfactorily answer the objectives in order to fulfil the aim.
Before we start, we would like to briefly introduce the definitions of Supply Chain and Supply Chain Management (SCM).
There are many elements involved in conducting a proper research. The two general types of research designs are qualitative and quantitative. These types of designs are different in many ways. Quantitative is an objective research typically focused on numerical data. Qualitative research is subjective research focused on narrative data. This paper further elaborates on many elements that separate quantitative research from qualitative research.
Supply chain management is basically refers to the fundamental supply chain analysis of the organization which predominantly describes functionalities from source to the delivery point. In this process of delivery, supply chain management framework divides in four categories: In Planning the products and suppliers evaluated and selected, Sourcing pull the information process including contracting, ordering and expediting, Moving is a physical process from suppliers to end user and Paying is the financial process including payment and performance measurement.
Supply chain management has been defined as that process that involves the management of information, materials, and all the finances that are handled within and across the entire supply chain process (Christopher, 2016). The management is usually done through out the entire supply chain management from that moment when the suppliers are involved through all the manufacturing activities, different distribution activities, and the way that the products are served to the final product consumer (Turban, et al., 2002). The process also includes all the activities that different organizations offers to their customers as after sale services for purposes perfecting their services and products towards their highly valued customers (Christopher,
Quantitative research uses a deductive reasoning also known as top to bottom or (top down approach) starting with a theory, then the hypothesis, followed by observation and finally confirmation , going from the general to the more specific. Quantitative methods use numbers and statistics to show the results of the research exercise and mainly are concerned with mathematics and statistics. In quantitative research there are levels of measurement being firstly nominal which are names of things followed by ordinal sequence of things, interval where the sequence has equal distance between each item, and ratio where there is a true zero (Alston & Bowles, 2003, p. 7-9).
‘Supply chain management integrates supply and demand management within and across companies. It encompasses the planning and management of all activities involved in sourcing and procurement, conversion, and all logistics management activities. Importantly, it also includes coordination and collaboration with channel partners, which can be suppliers, intermediaries, thir- party service providers, and customers’. Striating from the research idea to the culmination of the findings, the research process entails many segments, all of which are imperative. By choosing the research methodology, the researchers can formulate the path to be used in conducting the study and reporting the findings. The methodology helps in the search of literature, development of research questions and the creation of the most suitable study design. It also assists in the interpretation of the results and the publication of the findings in journals.
