Meryl had told me about the talk she had with Sam. I'm only assuming this, but I bet it's the reason she left. She actually told me straight up that she was afraid of him. She even asked me if I was abusing him. Of course, I denied that. I loved my son and I still do. She said he likes to talk about "the bad man" and how he's the one who knocks on the door in the basement. She asked him if there was a man locked down there, as if I were keeping a man locked away in my basement. Sam told her the man was not locked and that he could be wherever he wants to be. "The bad man is right there," he said, pointing at the chair near the fireplace. "He likes sitting in that chair. It's his favorite." "You can see him?" She asked. Sam didn't see anybody. I couldn't believe it, didn't want to either. But, I looked around the room, searching for Wally. The doll was not in there. I asked Sam about it and he said that he'd left it in the basement. "The bad man has it now," he said. I had enough at that point. I was seconds away from calling the police, but I thought about it. They wouldn't have believed anything I'd tell them. They'd lock me away for child abuse, there's no doubt about that. It didn't matter anyways, the police showed up a few hours later. Before Meryl left, she told me she'd be sending the police to my home. She said she was certain that I was keeping somebody in my basement and that I was abusing Sam. The policeman just wanted to check out the room in the basement and I allowed him to do so. I followed him down and I watched as he tried to get the door open. The only problem was that the door was locked from the other side. If somebody were in there, they'd be free to leave whenever they wanted.
