In the famous play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, there was many deaths and tragedies. One of them including Mercutio’s death. Mercutio was Romeos best friend. Mercutio was also related to Paris. He can civilly be in both houses because he is neither a Montague nor a Capulet. It was Mercutio’s own fault that he died. He was always getting into fights and causing trouble. But there are other people that play into the role leading to his death.
Romeo has role because he refused to draw his sword and fight Tybalt, so instead Mercutio did. Romeo declares that he should have fought Tybalt in Mercutio’s place. After this Romeo kills Tybalt because if he didn’t, Tybalt would have killed him instead. Romeo is banished from Verona and is told that he will be killed if he is found within the city limits of Verona ever again.

Tybalt demands that Romeo draw is sword and fight. Romeo refuses and Mercutio fights Tybalt. Mercutio and Tybalt begin to fight; Romeo is trying to keep the peace between the two. Romeo fails and Tybalt stabs Mercutio under his arm, which ends up killing him.
It was also Mercutio’s own fault for his death. He was constantly fighting/ getting into fight and causing problems. He stood in front of Tybalt with Romeo and taunted him until Tybalt had enough and snapped. Tybalt decided to start a fight where it would eventually lead to Mercutio getting stabbed and
In a story of unorthodox love, family feuding, and violence, many are at blame for the deaths. One of the people I think is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death is Mercutio. Mercutio had evoked a fight with his enemy Tybalt. In Act 1 Scene 1 lines 228-229 Benvolio tells Romeo “By giving liberty unto thine eyes.
It would be easy to say that Tybalt caused Mercutio’s death since it was his sword that killed him, but that is simply false. Mercutio ignored many warnings and continued to antagonize the fight that led to his death. The character ultimately responsible for Mercutio’s death is Mercutio himself. Had Mercutio unintentionally set Tybalt off, it would be easier to place blame elsewhere. However, Mercutio made many attempts to start a fight.
Of all the things that occur in Romeo and Juliet, the death of Tybalt is one of the most climatic parts of the story. Yet, this all started from another killing of a different person, Mercutio. Mercutio, a relative of the Prince and friend of Romeo, and Tybalt, nephew to Lady Capulet and Mercutio’s arch enemy, were in a heated conversion when Romeo walked in after getting married to Juliet and saw what was going on. Tybalt and Mercutio began to fight and Romeo tried to come in between them to stop the whole thing. Unfortunately, as Tybalt was under Romeo’s arms, he stabbed Mercutio and he died soon after. In all the rage, Romeo was furious that his friend was dead and starts to fight with Tybalt. Eventually, Romeo slays Tybalt and he falls to the floor and dies. Romeo runs away in agony before the Prince soon arrives at the scene of the fight with all the other citizens that were awakened by this fray to see what happened. Although Romeo is guilty of homicide, he is charged for manslaughter as he unlawfully killed a person in the heat of passion while defending Mercutio’s honor.
Tybalt is a Capulet and very passionate about hating the Montagues. In Act 1 Scene 5 when Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio sneak into Capulet’s party, Tybalt recognizes Romeo and begs Lord Capulet to kick him out. “Uncle, this is a Montague, our foe, / A villain that is hither come in spite / To scorn at our solemnity this night” (1. v. 69-71). Later, Tybalt sees Romeo on the street and tries to fight him, convinced that Romeo has done something to him. Romeo doesn’t want to fight, and Mercutio steps in. Benvolio and Romeo try to stop them, but Mercutio gets fatally wounded. Tybalt’s devotion to his family ended up killing Mercutio, and Tybalt himself later ends up dead because of
After catching Romeo at a party he was not supposed to be at, Tybalt had it out for Romeo. Just after Romeo and Juliet’s wedding, Tybalt comes looking for him wanting to fight. Romeo does not want to fight because he now loves Tybalt since he is family to him, but neither Tybalt or anyone else knows this reason. Quickly, Mercutio steps in and tells Tybalt that he will fight him in honour of Romeo. Sadly, this led to the death of Mercutio.
Tybalt was hoping that Romeo would be present. Mercutio, however, started to joke around which slightly aggravated Tybalt. When Romeo turned up, Tybalt directly challenged him to a fight:
Mercutio, though a minor character, had and enormous impact on the outcome of the play. Before the Capulet Ball, Romeo had been debating whether to go or not. Mercutio persuaded him to go by giving a big speech to him about a dream he had. This makes him partially responsible because the Ball is where Romeo first met Juliet. Mercutio also caused Romeo to be banished from Verona. Mercutio got in a fight with Tybalt and ended up dead. His death enraged Romeo enough to make him kill Tybalt in revenge. When the Prince saw what happened, he sent Romeo into exile. Romeo's banishment to Mantua made it near impossible for Romeo and Juliet to see each other. Mercutio was to blame, though only partially for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
situation is. Tybalt had just killed Mercutio in the town square and run away, but Romeo won’t stop until he tries to avenge Mercutio. Tybalt comes back and has to face an emotional Romeo looking for redemption. Romeo angrily shouts, “Either
Romeo tried to break up the sword fight. Then, Tybalt stabs Mercutio. Mercutio falls and dies. Romeo wants revenge for him killing Mercutio. So he takes it upon his self to kill Tybalt, “They fight Tybalt falls” (Shakespeare 850). They fight and Tybalt falls because Romeo stabbed him and killed him. Tybalt is put
As Romeo begged for Mercutio including Tybalt to stop for as the Prince will have their heads as Prince Mentioned before, if Capulet also Montague fight anew in the city streets he will have them leave Verona or be executed But they both did not listen leaving Romeo to grab Mercutio furthermore push him back, Tybalt stabbing Mercutio under Romeo’s arm, Tybalt not knowing what the consequences he will serve if the Prince settle out about this making him flee the scene, but Romeo, Benvolio along with everybody
After this incident happened Romeo sook revenge, he chased down Tybalt and fought him and ended up killing him to. If Romeo
Mercutio played big roles in pushing Romeo to attend the party, dying to affect Romeo’s further actions, and being of noble blood which puts him as a bigger character than Friar Lawrence. Mercutio’s insistency for Romeo to attend the party was the start of Romeo’s future fate. Without this event occurring Romeo would still probably be moping about for the tragedy of Rosaline lack of love towards him. Mercutio death is quite demoralizing, he was such a joyful character which brought humor into the play. The role of playing fate was his task. He accomplished what it seemed he was set out to
When circumstances come to killing often times it leads to more consequences than there would have been been if the person lived. Tybalt and Mercutio fought with it ending in Mercutio’s death. The death of Mercutio crushed his best friend Romeo. Tybalt killing Mercutio was just going to stir things up and make people angry. Romeo, Mercutio’s best friend was right there attempting to stop the
In this scene, Tybalt went to the montagues for a challenge since romeo came to the capulet's party.Romeo didn't want to start a fight with Tybalt because first he knows Tybalt is way stronger than him and second he loves Juliet and he doesn't want to hurt anybody from the Capulets. Then Mercutio started talking and started to make fun of Tybalt. As a result, Tybalt and Mercutio started fighting even though Mercutio knows that Tybalt is stronger than him. Romeo tried to break the fight. While romeo is breaking the fight Tybalt killed Mercutio and that was the turning point of the story.
Friar John gives his excuse to Friar Laurence by stating, "I could not send it- here it is again- nor get a messenger to bring it thee." (Shakespeare 5.2.14-15). During this act, many miscommunications happen. Friar John was supposed to deliver a crucial letter that contained the plan for the two lovebirds to run away together. He could not deliver it which makes the story end fatally. Romeo could have stayed alive and their plane could have followed through if he got the message. Meaning that Friar John influenced Romeo's life. But before that happened, let's talk about how Romeo even got exiled. Mercutio insults Tybalt by saying, "O calm, dishonourable, vile submission!" (Shakespeare 3.1.72). Mercutio fights Tybalt after Romeo refused to do so. Mercutio ends up slain which would have happened if he didn't say those hurtful words. But, Mercutio did choose to fight and start trouble, which all lies in the hands of himself. Romeo becomes furious with Tybalt over the death of Mercutio. "Either thou or I, or both, must go with him." (Shakespeare 3.1.130). Romeo ends up killing Tybalt which buries him in a deep hole that he can not get out of, leading to his exile. It was not Mercutio or Tybalt that caused his terrible choices it was himself. Making one's self as the victim does not solve problems and is usually not right because it all starts with one's own
