Ethel Waters overcame a very tough childhood to become one of the most well known African American entertainers of her time. Her story, The Eye on the Sparrow, goes into great detail about her life and how she evolved from taking care of addicts to becoming the star of her own show. Ethel was born by her mother being raped at a young age. Her father, John Waters, was a pianist who played no role in Ethel’s life. She was raised in poverty and it was rare for her to live in the same place for over a year. Ethel never fit in with the rest of the crowd; she was a big girl, about five nine when she was a teenager, and was exposed to mature things early in her life. This is what helped shape Ethel to be the strong, independent woman she is.

In Song of the Hummingbird by Gracie Limon, It’s clear by chapter three that Father Benito and Hummingbird are starting to reach an impasse. He could no longer hold his tongue “This woman who had a way of prying out thoughts and feeling of which he was not aware”. With her story of transgression, incest and murder her sin was to be forgiven in eyes of the lord, but she wanted Father Benito words. His thoughts conflicted, so he was surprised that the words he spoke were forgiveness. At this point, Hummingbird feels ready to start the next level of her story. I liked in the dialog that it express every insecurity Father Benito went through when saying he forgives her. To me, he seems that he can no longer stand to hear more like he wants to sing

I've heard the fable before, three times in fact. Originally, the oracle in question was always an old man, an Asian philosopher and blind. The boys carried in a live bird, not a dead bird as she described as a "small bundle of life sacrificed" or the absence of bird altogether. The boys asked the same question. If the philosopher answered dead, they would let it fly away, but if he answered alive, they would kill it and drop it at his feet, proving him wrong with either answer. When the old, wise, blind man was presented with the question, he pondered it a bit and deduced their scheme. He answered, "The fate of that bird is in your hands."

The inability to communicate is illustrated throughout the story by the selection of the characters, the personality of the characters, and the limited use of words.

He had an ice cold glass of sweet tea in one hand, and the newly opened letter in the other. Sitting out on the porch he looked at the majestic rolling hills that surrounded him. The sound of muffled crickets in the long green grass, and the joyful noise of children laughter. The sun was high, it was such a beautiful day. With a big sigh the man took a small drink of his iced tea. He could smell roast cooking and a new loaf of bread in the oven, with all these great things in his life why was he suddenly not happy? He heard a sweet voice calling from the kitchen that dinner was ready and to come inside and serve him food. When he didn’t appear in the kitchen right away his wife came out on the porch. She didn’t have to ask what was wrong
It would be accurate to say that Sigmund Freud in The Future of an Illusion and Jerzy Kosinski in The Painted Bird both take very pessimistic views when it comes to human nature and by association the state of nature. Given their combined sound arguments and experiences it is hard to see how one could find Marx’s ideas in the Communist Manifesto a plausible plan to create a sound and just society. On the other hand is the relatively optimistic John Mill. In his work On Liberty, Mill emphasizes the importance of personal liberty, individualism, and rationality in keeping society fair and just to all people. Combating illusions that would cause people to force their opinions onto others and restrict their rights. Similar to Freud's argument on illusions, and compatible with Kosinski’s ideas of human nature inside of society. Mill’s ideas strike the final nail in Marx’s coffin. Proving that violent rebellion against a ruling minority and forcefully suppressing
Images of the wise owl and black bird held in high regard on that day. I still have no assumptions about why knights in battle; a significant true meaning and in the same regards of straw from farm crops burned and scattered on new crop of the farmer. The scent of cinnamon was everywhere from kitchens to fresh new candles set on beautifully decorated neighboring tables. Leaf and from oak tree, to apple gathered and set for decoration. Soft vocals from every person notice and sung. While friend, family and visitors had seemed quite serious that night. Within the silence and people a daunting image seen figuratively within a rare sight of green mist surrounds a new crop and its form. A hiss where a gush of wind storm had taken its place, among trees and narrow plains of grass. To be still, by watching and let nature take its course. Relevant and obvious of all beauty and glory that is to happen next. Astonished by energy, pure of a different sort of existence and of flesh which breathes similar air. I realize the importance to comprehend and to know with realizing by only accepting everyone is different and amazing. Since then I do not even bother to think of an absurd question pertaining to another person and their
