This assignment will explore how government legislation supports the vulnerable group of mental health individuals. The reason for choosing this topic was due to there being so much information available. Also, not having any experience in the mental health section of care made it appealing to investigate. Finding out how interesting this section of care seemed to be a must. Throughout this assignment it will be explored as to why there is such a law as legislation, the history behind the legislation, what is included, involved as well as what has changed over the years. This legislation was put in place for the mentally disordered people to amend section forty of the mental capacity act 2005. The difference between the mental health 1983 to the mental health act 2007 is in 1983 the act was focused on tightening the rights of patients allowing them to be independent in views of their treatment, where as in 2007 it was amended that the patients had the detention as well as the treatment that was needed (communitycare.co.uk). The mental capacity act of 2005 is now up to date with all the changes which are in force at present. It was made effective on the 30 November 2017. The mental capacity act 2005 was put in to practice from 2 April 2007. There were provisions of legislation for the mentally ill people in Ireland during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. During the 1700’s there were workhouses or industry houses for the poor people with mental health issues, which is where they then spent a lot of their time. The reason for this was due to there not being any type of adequate asylum accommodation at the time (medico-legalsociety.org.uk 2008). The mental health act 2007 now covers Ireland. What the changes are from past to present, why things may have changed completely or just been amended to meet certain criteria. It has been researched and discussed as to outline what the welsh assembly think of the wide variety of mental health issues, how the welsh assembly has helped these vulnerable individuals also what actions have been put in place for these individuals to help and support each person in different ways depending on their circumstances. Included in this assignment has been information on how far back the legislation goes, what legislation is, as well as why we need to follow each legislation as it is a law. It has been recognised what mental health diagnosis is and the explanation to what mental health illness means, all the wide variety of research has been collected from the internet due to making sure that all the information found was up to date and relevant to what was needed for the topic being researched and
