There is a quote that goes “Things end, but memories last forever.” What if memories didn’t last forever. What if everybody forgot things past their generation. Nobody would have a recollection of the past wars or governmental officials. Would the society be better off with no memories or would everyone just repeat the past. In The Giver by Lois Lowry the community did not repeat the past, but that is just a book. It might not happen that way in real life. Memories trick everyone into making sure they don’t forget who they are, by reminding them of who they were. People did foolish things along time ago, that put a lot of lives in danger. Everyone should get the chance to know those things so it does not happen again. In The Giver nobody has any memory outside of the generation they live in. They did a good job at sustaining a strong and respected government, but what if in present day it was harder than they made it seem. What if in present day nobody really did have a memory outside of their generation. George Washington might of made an act that Theodore Roosevelt also made. Sure in present day they might have the act written down and recorded somewhere but if nobody had a recollection of when George Washington was alive or who he was or what …show more content…

France was the first ally with the United States due to the military support in the American Revolutionary War. If nobody remembered that the French helped the US during that time, how could The United States know not to go to war with them. There will always be the person who says “Why are the French and the US allies, again?“ There would have to be no such thing as allies. There would have to be no Statue of Liberty or Sacagawea stories. If there were these things, people would have to know the history behind it. Therefore they would have to look for history or memories that people have and wrote about. They would then be learning things past there
