Clothing: Middle Ages By: Hallie Brindell Intro When you get dressed in the morning, do you dress carelessly, or do you take your precious time to find the perfect outfit? Neither is the case for the people of the medieval era. They have to wear specific things every day in order to separate the different social classes. Here you can learn about items a person from this time would have to wear day after day. The Nobles~1070 A Nobleman would wear a tunic that had a wide neck for decoration and for easy use. The tunic would also have three-quarter length sleeves with embroidered borders. The tunic would be loose with a belt at the waist. He would also wear a coat of chainmail called a hauberk It would have short sleeves so the knight could bend his arms and slits in the back and front so it could be worn on horseback. He wears hose that are cross-gartered with leather thongs. A knight would also wear leather shoes. He would carry his lance and helmet but his sword and mace are within easy reach. The knights lady in 1095 was not much different than in 1070. Her gown fitted her figure and had lacing down the back. After a few years, the sleeves got longer. Peasants Medieval peasants would usually wear a tunic, short breeches or sometimes long trousers depending on the severity of the weather. The longer trousers that were worn by medieval peasants were usually tied with thongs. The shoes worn by medieval peasants also differed in the North and South of Europe, with Northern medieval peasants wearing more substantial footwear. Children Conclusion In conclusion, these things are important because without them- our clothing now would be different. Thing about it.
