The performance of modern medicine would be impossible without the tests performed in a clinical laboratory setting. The clinical lab consists of pathologists, specialists, scientists, technologists, and technicians work jointly to decide the existence and the absence of disease by providing information needed to evaluate the efficiency of treatment. A medical laboratory scientist has the best of both worlds along with the challenges and rewards that come along with science of medicine.

If an individual already have an associate's or bachelor's degree in the medical field, they can complete a one year certificate program to allow them to become a medical lab technician, technologist or scientist.
