Yesterday, as Martin's friends poured into town, I was struck by how many distinct sets of friends he had. Family, skaters, punks, his Swampland posse, his boys and his girls, Professors, colleagues, Ann Arbor friends, Chicago friends, cyberspace friends who'd never met him "in the flesh"... Trying to walk down the street with him was an exercise in frustration, as Martin's fans flocked to him like the Pied Piper. He was so much, to so many. One of his greatest gifts to us is each other.
Big Mama's Funeral Gabriel García Márquez story, Big Mama's Funeral, is a story filled with fantastical scenes and events, much in line with Don Quixote and Candide. The introductory paragraphs of Big Mama's Funeral and Candide sound so similar in voice the two authors could be mistaken for the same. In Candide, one finds a series of episodes that are so far from the truth and yet perfectly explainable. The story of the fate of Dr. Pangloss, the death and resurrection of Cunegund and of her Jesuit brother, and the story of the old woman with one buttock are farcical in the same way as the episodes in Big Mama's Funeral.
In “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, she speaks much about tradition in a small town in which many have been lost over the years. The black box, which Shirley speaks about in the beginning of the story, is of great importance. The black box represents the entrapment of tradition and the change over time. It is the trapping of tradition because now that it is worn and ragged they still do not want to change it because it is tradition. Along with the box changing many people’s views on The Lottery, it also lets the town’s people stand strong by themselves. Shirley Jackson in “The Lottery” uses symbolism and irony to foreshadow death.
While reviewing "The Funeral" the first thing that became apparent was the title. A funeral is ceremony held in connection with the burial of a dead person. So already just by looking at the title we become aware that we are dealing with a dead body. Death, in some cultures, is the separation of the body from the soul. The soul continues to live and may even find shelter in another body.

Over the years, Funeral Service has progressed and become a larger industry. Funeral Service has changed in its history over time, affecting the education required, and the job they do today.

A funeral is an important event that should be planned with careful consideration, as each person only gets one to celebrate his or her life. People often die expectantly and suddenly leaving any funeral and burial arrangements in the hands of friends or relatives. These friends or family of the deceased may or may not have a good understanding of what the deceased would have preferred in his or her post death arrangements. A person planning his or her own funeral can prevent this guessing game and insure the arrangements are to their specifications.
Funeral ceremonies are another important time for ceremonies, it is for the death of a person. People would paint themselves white, cut their own bodies to show their sorrows for the loss of their loved one (s). Then they would conduct a series of rituals, songs and dances, this is to ensure the person’s spirit leaves the area and returns to its birth place. The primary burial is when the body is laid out on an elevated wooden platform, covered in leaves and branches.

Prior to our company, I’d been working in the funeral profession for over five years, and one of my tasks was to create memorial stationary, and DVDs. While creating memorial folders, I would often wonder about the type of memorialization I would want for my family, and I realized that funeral homes do not offer items that can be used on a daily basis. I wanted to offer grieving families something personal, meaningful, and everlasting, such as jewelry displaying a loved one’s cremated remains, hair, or small portrait of the deceased. According to an article by National Funeral Directors Association, grieving families are trying to create unique funeral services, with more personalization. “All of this is done to help make the funeral more personal,
There are some discussions that we tend to naturally avoid. At the top of that list is our own funeral. It seems incredibly morbid and dark to think about that day and what all it will bring. It can also allow you to share some of the financial responsibility without causing your family to worry about how much they are putting into the day. When it comes to those preparations, Ascension Funeral Home helps explain the different types of preplanning arrangements and how they break down.
