The Importance of Community Service
Service projects are important for many reasons that come with positive benefits. By completing community service, it allows to help those in need as well as further develop personal benefits. There are many individuals, just in our community alone, that need help with the basic functions of life. It is important to give back to our community to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves. During the service learning project, it opens your eyes to situations other live through on a daily basis.
For my community service project, I completed my time at Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels is a program that is organized with the Council on Aging at the Pittsboro branch. The purpose of the program is to deliver meals to those who are home bound in our community. Each group of people delivering meals is given a route number with instructions of who to deliver the meals to. These people may have medical conditions or are no longer able to make meals for themselves. They rely on the Meals on Wheels program, family members, or caregivers for meals and other aspects of daily life. Also, they do not receive much in the way of human interaction, so they are happy to talk to you, even though it is only for a few minutes. Their faces really seemed to light up when they were able to hold a conversation with someone else. By completing these service hours, it really makes you appreciate all the things in life can offer. Without realizing it, I take for granted that I can leave the house at any time, cook for myself, or go to school to continue my education. These tasks are readily available to me, but not so much for others. It makes me fully appreciate everything and all of the opportunities I have had so far in my
