McDonalds: Cause and Effect
There are over 14,000 McDonald’s restaurants in the United States and more than 33,000 worldwide ("Number of McDonald's.."). Although people may think they have delicious food, they do not know what they are actually consuming. McDonald's attracts their customers with cheap prices and convenience, creating easy access for people to buy food. McDonald's should offer healthier options because their food contains unhealthy chemicals, causes obesity, and risks disease.
The chemicals in McDonald’s food are used to enhance the flavor, but they do much more than that. Meaning, McDonald's incorporates unnecessary ingredients in their food that are proven to cause different diseases, showing that their initial purpose is not to promote a healthy lifestyle, but produce a successful business. Even a basic hamburger bun is composed of unnatural ingredients. The bun consists of azodicarbonamide, which is a chemical that is found in yoga mats, shoe rubber, and synthetic leather ("That Chemical Subway Ditched.."). It was approved for consumption by the FDA in the United States, but it was not accepted in Europe or Australia ("That Chemical Subway Ditched.. "). This fact should be concerning to fast food consumers, since they are ingesting an additive that is considered illegal in other countries. Today, Vani Hari, created a petition to prohibit the use of azodicarbonamide ("That Chemical Subway Ditched.."). Currently, this petition holds 75,000 signatures ("That Chemical Subway Ditched.."). Not only are the buns unhealthy, but the wrappers protecting the burger are too. When most people think of McDonald’s, they typically think of the Golden Arch, their famous French fries, cheeseburgers, or their tender, juicy all white meat chicken nuggets, sandwiches, and strips. But what most people don’t know is what really goes into these so called 100% all white meat Chicken McNuggets. The horrid things that they use in their nuggets are right under our noses in the ingredient list, but do we ever take the time to actually read and research what their made of? No, because we all trust the McDonald’s Corporation when they tell us that McNuggets are made from 100% all white meat chicken, right? They wouldn’t feed us anything that could potentially harm us, would they?

McDonalds promotes the construct of “healthiness” as a justification as to why a consumer should purchase their food. This article introduces an interesting viewpoint that despite these claims of “healthiness” or even the inclusion of low calorie options does not ensure that the consumer will not overconsume their food. I will use this source to expand the findings in "Nutritional Quality at Eight U.S. Fast-Food Chains 14-Year Trends” which argues that despite the addition of “healthy” options at fast food restaurants, the overall nutritional quality of the menu remained poor. An analysis of these two sources will be used to help answer my research questions: what consists of healthy food in the McDonalds “Questions” campaign and what are the implications of this definition of healthy food? I will use these sources to support the significance of my claim. Specifically, I will use Downs as evidence for my claim that despite marketing campaigns aimed at redefining McDonald’s as a healthy option, the definition of healthy food that these commercials promote is too limited and ultimately attempts to conform to new definitions of healthy food without actually changing their

They have twice as many restaurants as Burger King and more restaurants than KFC, Wendy’s, and Taco Bell combined. Often children have the dream of eating fast food for every meal of every day. Well, Morgan Spurlock took the challenge to see how dangerous it would be to eat McDonalds for every meal. He also took the challenge in response to a lawsuit against McDonalds by a family whose children became obese by the contents of its meals.

When Ray Kroc opened his first restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois, the famous chain was born. The company has become very successful with having sold over one billion hamburgers within just eight years of business (McSpotlight - History of McDonalds). So if this chain is so popular, why has McDonalds been criticised so much lately? Mostly because their food options are very high in calories and fat. The most caloric item on their menu is the Triple Thick Chocolate Shake - 1160 calories, 27g of fat, 168g of sugar, and 510mg of sodium. The FDA defines food additive as “intended use of which results or may reasonably be expected to result, directly or indirectly, either in their becoming a component of food or otherwise affecting the characteristics of food.” However, the increase in food additives has created a controversial topic that has had numerous effects on society. Each individual in America has a goal he or she wants to accomplish. Whether it’s to purchase a new car or a huge home, it’s a goal wanted to be reached. However with the amount of fast food that Americans eat today, they will have a hard time accomplishing these goals because of the obesity or even disease they’ll have from the fast food. One major fast food that we like to eat while on the go is hamburgers. If it’s breakfast we grab a burger, if it’s lunch we grab a burger and even when it’s dinner we will grab a burger and might throw in some fires and a huge soda to go with it. Hamburgers are one of the leading causes of obesity and disease catching food.

The results of a questionnaire were not good with only 37 percent of ‘curious skeptic’ millennials felt decent about eating at McDonald’s locations and only 32 percent felt wholesome about the food. McDonalds food is tasty, delicious and is sold cheap,making it affordable for everyone and attracts more customers including teens our age but this will result to extreme consequences . Mc Donald's food can create obesity, many health problem even at young age and it has way to many preservatives inside it As a person begins eating McDonalds food they slowly begin becoming addicted to it's flavour and are unable to resist it sometimes even knowing the consequences from it and starting to eat it at a young age is even worst because it becomes harder to stop consuming it after many years of eating it.

Most people around the world are aware of the unhealthiness of the burgers at McDonalds, but cannot spit out a specific number or ingredient to explain why. This is due to advertisers not including crucial information about nutrition and health in their ads. Some of the burgers McDonalds sells are easily over a five hundred calories, but nutrition information like this are specifically kept out of ads. McDonalds’s advertisers, like the sophists that similar to pastry chefs, know what they are trying to sell is unhealthy. Regardless of this fact, they still try to convince potential consumers to buy their product by creating ads that leave out information that could possibly deter customers.
