“I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people,” Maya Angelou. The word “hero” has many different meanings. It can be from the well-known heroes and most loved of all time, such as Superman, Batman, and Spiderman. It can also be someone who you wish to be, such as a firefighter, policeman, and a doctor. Everyone has a hero. My hero is a bit different though. Even though I am not close to my hero, I still look up to him. He is amazing. He changed my life and helped me in so many ways. I am lucky to call him my brother. He does so many awesome things that people cannot do. I am astonished at what he achieved. My brother is loving/caring, responsible, and he is really kind.

was born on February 20, 1994 in Laos. He had a rough childhood. He had an abusive dad and had a dead sister. He could not go to school because he was too poor and he had to take care of my other brother, named Koko. He worked hard with my mom to earn money so that they could get food. Chaky, even though he had it harsh, he cared and loved my brother, Koko, and my mom. My mom divorced his father and they saved up money to move to the United States to have a more suitable life. My mother found another man and they got married. He supported her and his new dad. No matter what happened, he would encourage them to get through the tough times and do their best as much as he can. When my brother moved to America, he had a brand new start. He was fine with his new father, which is my current father. They got along nicely and they were pretty close. A few years later, he had three new siblings, which included me. He cared much about us. He would skip hanging out with his friends just to take care of my brothers and me. Chaky would also play games on his PlayStation 2 with us and it would be the best days! It got too competitive and things would be a mess and would be broken. When we had those intense days, it would usually be like a monkey on a sugar high. It would always be one of the best nights! He also got me into what I love doing the most, which is gaming. Without him, I would not have gotten to meet amazing people or found a hobby I absolutely love as much as this. Fast forward a couple of months later, Chaky had a girlfriend. She was not the best influence for him but he still loved her deeply. Now, he was not the type to date just to pass time or just to be cool. He dated because he wanted to spend time with them and to make them feel special. And that was this girl Angelica. When he was with her, she would get him into trouble. She was a drug addict and an alcoholic, at the age of 14. Her mother died, and her father was abusive. Even though he did not like the things she did, he tried to see the good in her. He stood by her and tried to help her get through that phase in her life. Things did not work out so well with her so she broke things up. After the split, he still was worried and concerned. My brother went a little downhill from there. At the end of 8th grade, he started to party. He would not care about anything at all. All he really cared about was his friends. Chaky would also sneak out of the house to drink and smoke. He would go with his so called “friends” and be reckless. He stole things, got the cops on him, changed the prices illegally on items, and did many other things that were illegal. He would also fight with my brother, Koko and would always disrespect my mom. He actually stole my mother’s jewelry and sell them for drugs. They would get into fights and my brother would include violence in them. This continued until he was a junior. In 12th grade, he had a new girlfriend. He also had a baby on the way! He knew he had to grow up and graduate to make a bright future for his child. When his daughter was born, he managed to graduate, saved up for an apartment, and worked two jobs. Then unfortunately, a couple months later, his girlfriend left him and he supported his daughter by himself. He had to move out of his apartment and come back into the house with us. Chaky started working three jobs now and started saving a lot of money and somehow fit college in his time. He saved enough money and bought a house. Still on his own, raised a daughter, raised two dogs, attended college, and worked two jobs! It amazes me how he does it. One day, when Chaky took my brothers and me to eat, we saw a man who was homeless.
This man was really slim. He decided to go to the nearest fast food place and buy him three meals. We came back and gave him the food with an additional twenty dollars. The smile on his face was something else. He could not stop thanking him and it just made my heart melt. My brother also helped out a battered dog. The dog was starving and looked like it has not eaten in days. He brought the dog to the shelter and helped take care of it for a little while. Chaky is a dog lover himself and owns two huskies. Now, the dog got adopted into a family and is well health wise. I am sure that helping one gentleman and one dog does not change the world, but in their prospective, it changed their world. He fed and gave money to an old homeless man and helped a dog. There was a lot more good he did but those were the ones I have experienced with him.
Since my brother got his act together he's been doing really well. He has a family now and is doing okay. He finally has a future to look forward to. He keeps up with his bills and payments and does not ask for money, ever. He takes care of his family really well and still raises a child by himself as a single parent. He goes to college, takes care of his daughter on his own, works two jobs, and has two dogs which is pretty
amazing! Sure, my brother may not be the hero you want him to be with all the superpowers and saving the country by beating a giant ant with laser eyes, but in my eyes, he's a true hero. He really is. He has done so much for my family and I. I do not think that we could have done much without him. He got us through thick and thin and stuck by our side when he could have left at anytime. He stood strong when he knew what he had to do. This is my hero. I love him. And I am lucky to call my hero, my brother.
This piece of autobiographical works is one of the greatest pieces of literature and will continue to inspire young and old black Americans to this day be cause of her hard and racially tense background is what produced an eloquent piece of work that feels at times more fiction than non fiction
What is a hero? A hero can be classified as a number of things. A hero can be a person who in the opinions of others has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal. Ervin Staub, a holocaust survivor from Hungary and as scholar on altruistic behavior, has written, "Goodness like evil often begins in small steps. Heroes evolve; they aren't born. Very often the rescuers make only a small commitment at the start, to hide someone for a day or two. But once they had taken that step, they begin to see themselves differently, as someone who helps. What starts as mere willingness becomes intense involvement." The business man, Oskar Schindler, demonstrated a powerful example
"I had decided that St. Louis was a foreign country. In my mind I had only stayed there for a few weeks. As quickly as I understood that I had not reached my home, I sneaked away to Robin's Hood's Forest and the caves of Alley Oop where all reality was unreal and even that changed my day. I carried the same shield that I had used in Stamps: 'I didn't come to stay.'"
It appears Maya Angelou could answer the timeless question what does it mean to be a women?” She shows her confidence and pride in her identity as a women in the poem “Phenomenal Woman” that I found on the internet. She says,
Collective Soul, a 90’s based rock band, and the famously known poet Maya Angelou, have a statement to make on their thoughts and feelings. They are expressed in two different forms of poetry. Maya Angelou express them in contemporary poetry, while the rock group Collective Soul adds rhythm and a impressive beat to their lyrics. Both of these forms of poetry are very strong at getting their point across to their audience that is very attracted to their work. Both Maya Angelou and Collective Soul share the hardships and oppression that has been bestowed upon their life’s, and other human beings. Maya Angelou’s poem Still I Rise and Collective Soul’s song December, show the effects on an individual through positive and negative means of expression.
In my opinion, a hero is someone whose principal purpose, whether it be in one situation or over the span of their entire life, is to help others while simultaneously making the world a better place. When the word hero is brought up, the most prevailing image that comes to mind is superheroes like Batman and Superman. But I don’t think you have to have superpowers or even be well known in order to be a hero. There are people all over the world whose intention is to do selfless deeds and go out of their way for others without expectation of obtaining anything in return. These are the type of people I like to consider everyday heroes. They go through life just trying to be the best they can and trying to help as many people as they can. Whether
Maya Angelou is one of the most known African American poets."Dr. Angelou’s words and actions continue to stir our souls, energize our bodies, liberate our minds, and heal our hearts." It was quite over with yet, segregation was still a huge series going on. Maya Angelou was greatly influenced by the Civil Rights Movement. The Civil Rights Movement was a movements in the United States which they has a goal was to end segregation and discrimination against African Americans, or Blacks and give them their voting rights. I believe that Maya Angelou's writing has became more positive after the Civil Right Movement had taken place, it had inspiration and was hoping for the blacks to succeed the goal trying to get reached of them to became more civilized.
Maya Angelou was one of America’s greatest writers in history. She was known for her many writings and for her part in Civil Rights Movements. Maya Angelou went through many hardships during her childhood, the most prevalent of those, racism over her skin color. This racism affected where she grew up, where she went to school, even where she got a job. “My education and that of my Black associates were quite different from the education of our white schoolmates. In the classroom we all learned past participles, but in the streets and in our homes the Blacks learned to drops s’s from plurals and suffixes from past tense verbs.” (Angelou 221) Maya Angelou was a strong believer in a good education and many of those beliefs were described in her
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a hero is an individual who is admired for great bravery or fine qualities. To me a hero is so much more than a person who shows great bravery. When I think of a hero many fine qualities come to mind; intelligence, courage, altruism, compassion and great bravery.
Maya Angelou is one of most well-known poets ever. Her work is a reflection of her hardships during her childhood and her life as an adult. She expressed many of her opinions through her poetry and other writing. Many of her poems revolve around equality and freedom because she grew up in the segregated era and worked with civil right activist. The poems she writes are to inspire the lives of others. A hero could be anyone. A hero could be an ordinary person who has impacted someone or has inspired a change toward greatness in their life. A hero can be passive or active, famous or ordinary, rich or poor. What gives a hero a distinct similarities to other heroes and distinguish them from non heroes is their ability to influence others that they are extraordinary because of their means to overcome obstacles, defeated adversities, and still manage to be a leader, role model, or an admirable person within society.
Every child searches for individuality; what makes everyone unique? As a child, surroundings will shape who a person becomes. So a child raised in secure suburbs might be more trusting than a child who lives in a large city. Different environments will without a doubt put people in uncomfortable and sometimes unfortunate circumstances. Environment as a whole is what affects how a child behaves, thinks, and reacts to certain situations. In the novel I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya Angelou exposes her own struggle to find identity as she endured racial hardships and sexual abuse.
Maya Angelou's life growing up was not always perfect. Given the birth name of Marguerite Ann Johnson, Maya Angelou was borin in St. Louis, Missouri on April 4th, 1928. Although she was born there, she spent most of her childhood in Stamps, Arkansas with her Grandmother, Annie Henderson and in San Fransico, California with her mother. Maya Angelou is still living today and teaches at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. Maya had to deal with many hard things growing up and although it wasn't perfect, she's lead a very eventful life.
Case in point. I was an only child. My father, who was a great man, noticed a group of boys was heading down the wrong path. What he did was befriended those boys, talked to them, played ball with them and gave them guidance, showed them respect. Every one of those boys turned around. Why? The answer is, simply because someone took the time to care.
There are many people who influence our lives over time, but fewer mean more than the individuals hero. Growing up, my friends and I would idolize star athletes and movie stars, simply because we wanted to be one of them. As time passed and I grew older, I found out what a real hero was. My father seemed to fit that title well. My father has every quality necessary for that of a heroic individual. From teaching me how to play sports, to teaching me the ropes of being a man, he has had an impact on every part of my life. I believe that a hero is someone who can have a great amount of influence on a person or society as a whole.
