Matchstick Staircase Investigation
Introduction
This investigation is based on the 'number sequence' and I am going to
make further more matchstick staircases for this investigation.
Investigation to find out the number of matchsticks on the perimeter
in a matchstick staircase using the GENERAL RULE.
I have drawn 6 matchstick staircases on the graph paper and I am going
to put the number of matchsticks on the base, number of matchsticks on
the perimeter, total number of matchsticks in a table based on the 6
matchstick staircases.

perimeter from the number of matchsticks on the perimeter.

From this table I'm going to make a general rule, in terms of letters.
Number of matchsticks on perimeter = P
Number of base = b
Perimeter difference = 4 (always)
When the perimeter difference is always the same therefore the general
rule will be linear pattern:
P = 4b
Prediction:

I predict that, I can find the number of matchsticks on the perimeter
using this general rule, P = 4b

On the second day of class, the Professor Judit Kerekes developed a short chart of the Xmania system and briefly explained how students would experience a number problem. Professor Kerekes invented letters to name the quantities such as “A” for one box, “B” for two boxes. “C” is for three boxes, “D” is for four boxes and “E” is for five boxes. This chart confused me because I wasn’t too familiar with this system. One thing that generated a lot of excitement for me was when she used huge foam blocks shaped as dice. A student threw two blocks across the room and identified the symbol “0”, “A”, “B”, “C”, “D”, and “E.” To everyone’s amazement, we had fun practicing the Xmania system and learned as each table took turns trying to work out problems.
Act 1 of Mr. Burns was the only act in the play that places it characters in a casual setting. It was easy to decipher the type of characters the actors were portraying in the scene. For example, the actor who played a meek character ported this by taking up as little space as she could and crouching behind objects. Also, two characters were pretty intimate with each other. They cuddled around the fire when discussing the probability of a power plant shutting down and shared soft smiles with each other. I felt that the characters were allowed to be themselves in this scene compared to the other acts.
