“There is no more lovely, friendly, and charming relationship, communion or company than a good marriage.” -Martin Luther. Martin Luther describes a good marriage as one with great companionship. The biblical belief is that marriage was started by God, but others believe it was created by man. Finding the origin of marriage is just as hard as being able to know which denomination of Christianity is really true or if any are at all. Christians will argue that God created marriage and has given us the principles for marriage that must be followed. On the other hand, atheists think marriage started with man. In marriage, the man has ownership of the woman. In this piece the Bible will be used as historical evidence, not to sway the audience to either side, but to argue each side. The Bible presents marriage as a divine institution. If marriage were of human origin, then human beings would have a right to decide the kind of marital relationships to choose. Marriage, however, began with God. It was established by God at the beginning of human history when He "created the heavens and the earth" (Gen 1:1). As the Creator of marriage, God has the right to tell us which principles should govern our marital relationships. On the other hand, atheism teaches that marriage is man made. They believe as the climate warmed, back before Christ, and the forests receded, humans began to move out into the savannah where their diet changed. It was mainly gathered vegetation, scavenged meat left behind by predators and, eventually, meat killed by hunters using tools. A more meat-based diet meant that babies were born earlier requiring more care from their mothers (Bacchiocchi). This longer care caused a partnership between man and woman thought to be similar to
