Introduction The world keeps changing, and so does healthcare and marketing. The relationship between these two parameters has been studied and continues to be an object of great interest, both in terms of the consumers of this industry and rapidly evolving healthcare service providers. What seems most interesting to me is the fact that, the consumer today is still naïve about how actually this industry markets its services. This tends to happen because health is a matter of concern to each one of us, and when certain services are highlighted and provided to us like a gift package, we accept it without a second thought. This has been observed by the experts in the field of healthcare markets and hence, they keep coming up with brilliant strategies to sell us their services, and keep us happy. Healthcare is a dynamic enterprise by nature which devotes immense resources for the creation of new therapies, drugs and aiding medical devices. Beyond this technological advancement, there is also a financial insight which involves the short and long term planning in this sector. This insight continues to change over time due to the constant barrage of mergers and acquisitions in healthcare organizations. The entry of profit components in this industry is making it compulsive for such organizations to shift the marketing function from the periphery of healthcare to the centers. The entry of marketing was observed some three decades ago, but still it offers a wide scope of inputs and developments. As with any industry in a period of transition, changes will create new business opportunities for those who understand and capitalize on changing market conditions.
When one examines managed health care and the hospitals that provide the care, a degree of variation is found in the treatment and care of their patients. This variation can be between hospitals or even between physicians within a health care network. For managed care companies the variation may be beneficial. This may provide them with opportunities to save money when it comes to paying for their policy holder’s care, however this large variation may also be detrimental to the insurance company. This would fall into the category of management of utilization, if hospitals and managed care organizations can control treatment utilization, they can control premium costs for both themselves and their customers (Rodwin 1996). If health care organizations can implement prevention as a way to warrant good health with their consumers, insurance companies can also illuminate unnecessary health care. These are just a few examples of how the health care industry can help benefit their patients, but that does not mean every issue involving physician over utilization or quality of care is erased because there is a management mechanism set in place.

When promoting primary health care services, there are many factors that must be considered when developing an effective marketing plan. Primary care providers are the gatekeepers of health care in the United States; many patients have to visit them before being referred to specialist providers (Bodenheimer, 2003). They are also being tasked with ensuring patients are receiving preventative services and managing more complex chronic diseases (Akinci & Healey, 2004). Recruitment of primary care physicians is challenging because they are expected to do more and are not being reimbursed proportionally for the added workload (Bodenheimer, 2003). In this paper, a group of primary care physicians in Washington D.C. is looking to research their consumer population base in order to provide them better services and recruit new primary care physicians to their practice (Colorado State University-Global Campus, 2013). A successful primary care marketing plan will recruit quality health care providers while improving consumer accessibility to their services, customer satisfaction rates, and patients’ continuity of care with their health care provider.

It is much broader than the concept of selling, as selling just includes techniques of direct communication used to persuade the customers to buy the products and services of an organisation. In fact, sales are the integral part of marketing. Marketing also helps organisations to utilise all resources in an efficient way to gain customer satisfaction, which will eventually help in the growth of the company. While, on one hand, marketers tend to focus on the needs and preferences of the customers, they also need to keep a close eye on their competitors (Gillespie, 2010). Companies always look to beat down their competition with providing better products and/or services, or by providing less-expensive goods to the customers than their competitors, in order to achieve or maintain the leading position in the industry. The core focus of this paper is to identify and discuss the core aspects how managers could maintain the marketing activities of the organisation in the global context.
Medicine, medical supplies, and medical treatment are multi-billion dollar industries crucial to the wellbeing of the public. But despite our notions of what healthcare should be, those who make a living in this industry, specifically owners of firms, must contend with the same economic questions facing businesses in any industry. To learn more about this vast service industry, I interviewed Dr. Martin Slez, a dentist/oral surgeon and owner of a medical practice that provides both general care and specialized treatments for oral diseases. Of the topics discussed, firm goals, pricing, costs, and technology stood out as particularly interesting and unique facets of the organization, as they differed considerably from those in other industries.
