The story, Death and the Compass, begins the second paragraph with the simple phrase, The first crime. Therefore, the first thing you think of is you are going to read a crime novel. Continuing to read clues are revealed and theories are presented by the police and the Sherlock Holmes type character. As it continues on, more murders and more clues with no out of the ordinary science fiction events. The murders are commonplace in nature, such as, happening in a hotel not at a cemetery or morgue. Cause of death is a stab wound with no signs of mystical powers intervening.
