Margaret Thatcher a former prime minister of Great Britain and a dear friend of former US President Ronald Reagan. She presents a eulogy about the years of working closely with Reagan and what a most wonderful person he was. She asserts her message for what Reagan has done for this country and what he has done for us as individuals as well. Thatcher supports her eulogy with the help of parallelism, pathos, ethos, and allusions . Thatcher worked beside the former president for eight years. She has seen the generous man we all know, but she has also seen the strict, black-hearted man he could be. The thing she has seen the most is his love for our country and how he values its citizens. In paragraph two starting in line five, she states, “He sought to mend America's wounds, to restore the strength of the free world, and to free the slaves of communism.” Not only is he promising to help our nation, but other nations as well. Thatcher emphasizes his love for our world with this parallelism and shows the patriotism he was within himself. The first also supports ethos, Thatcher stating “ America has lost a great man, I have lost a dear friend.” The writer’s use of ethos here can be seen as instant credibility. For the simple reason of Reagan being a “dear friend” they must have been close and she must know what she is talking about if she was indeed close with him. Also, here can be considered pathos a well because “dear” is a strong word to describe a friend.
