In the book Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli Grayson was kind-hearted to other characters. The Author developed Grayson's character trait when Maniac asked for a favor. Grayson was a little worried about what he was going to say at first, but it turned out all he wanted was some butterscotch krimpets. Grayson fed him a lot before, so he was a little surprised. Grayson still took Maniac to the store. Maniac, or Jeffory should I say, got a whole box of krimpets! Both of the boys were so happy after that. This demonstrates that Grayson is kind-hearted because Grayson is feeding him because he is making sure that Maniac is doing ok because he is homeless. Later on in the story Grayson’s kind-hearted character trait was developed when Maniac asked
for him to tell about the minors. Grayson did not really like to talk about the minors, but he still did everyday. He would buy Maniac an egg muffin and they would sit and talk. This shows that Grayson is kind-hearted because he is trying to make Maniac happy even though he is kind of uncomfortable with it. Another way that Grayson is kind-hearted is when Grayson took Maniac to the Two Mills football game on Thanksgiving thursday. After the great game Grayson took Maniac back to his house, and they had an amazing dinner with chicken, spaghetti o’s, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, gravy, the list goes on. Grayson gave Maniac the best Thanksgiving he have ever had. This demostrates that Grayson is kind-hearted because he is going to make him happy, and make sure he is safe, healthy, happy. The last thing before Grayson died that showed he was kind-hearted was on Christmas morning. Maniac gave Grayson a book he made, and a couple other stuff, but Grayson gave Maniac his baseball glove from the minors, and a new ball. This shows that Grayson is kind-hearted because GRayson knew that Jeffory loved to hear his stories, even though he didn’t like talking about it, Grayson gave Maniac something to remember him forever. The author determined that Grayson was kind-hearted by all these examples. On the outside he is a tough baseball player, but on the inside he is a sweet lollipop that cares about everyone.
Before going to Alaska, Chris McCandless had failed to communicate with his family while on his journey; I believe this was Chris’s biggest mistake. Chris spent time with people in different parts of the nation while hitchhiking, most of them whom figured out that McCandless kept a part of him “hidden”. In chapter three, it was stated that Chris stayed with a man named Wayne Westerberg in South Dakota. Although Westerberg was not seen too often throughout the story, nevertheless he was an important character. Introducing himself as Alex, McCandless was in Westerberg’s company for quite some time: sometimes for a few days, other times for several weeks. Westerberg first realized the truth about Chris when he discovered his tax papers, which stated that “McCandless’s real name was Chris, not Alex.” Wayne further on claims that it was obvious that “something wasn’t right between him and his family” (Krakauer 18). Further in the book, Westerberg concluded with the fact that Chris had not spoken to his family “for all that time, treating them like dirt” (Krakauer 64). Westerberg concluded with the fact that during the time he spent with Chris, McCandless neither mentioned his
“To climb…you have to be completely selfish”(pg.182). Though it may not always be true, to some degree it is. But it’s not just when you’re climbing, every single action that you take could be the difference between trust and suspicion, between death and life, between rising glory and simmering rage. People tend to be self-centered all the time, and sometimes, it really is the appropriate time to be selfish. On the other hand, it’s not always the best choice to be so selfish.
The book, Heat written by Mike Lupica, is a novel about a young boy named Michael Arroyo who faces many difficulties throughout the book, all for his right to play his beloved game of baseball. Michael lives with his dad, Papi, and his brother, Carlos. They are all Cubans who came to the United States for a better chance to follow their dreams. Papi always encourages Michael to play baseball and he always has high hopes for Michael’s career in baseball. It is right to believe in Michael so much because later he fulfills his father's dream for him. After Papi dies of heart failure, Michael still continues Papi dream for him, to be the Little League Champion. Throughout the book Michael meets two characters who have significant impacts on him,
Facts: Chet is basically Gene's only real competition in school for valedictorian but Chet doesn't really notice it as competition because his love of learning is so sincere. Also, he is amazing as tennis and playing the trumpet, and was even asked by Finny to play at their winter get together when the band can't come.
In Maniac Magee written by Jerry Spinelli, the main character is Jeffrey Magee. Jeffrey's parents were killed when he was only three years old. He got sent to his Aunt Dot’s and Uncle Dan’s house but he got fed up with having two of everything. So he decided to leave and live on his own. By that time he was getting bullied by people who disliked him very much. He then ended up at the Beale’s house and was taken in for awhile until he decided to move on to a new place. In this book Jeffrey is stubborn, helpful, and independent and is having trouble finding out where he belongs in the world.
In this world, many people are nice, kind, and good, but not many people are truly kind-hearted, like Doris from the short story “Stray” by Cynthia Rylant. Doris is an only child from a family with a financial problem. Even in this family, Doris is a kind-hearted character, and keeps on being so throughout the story. She is kind-hearted because she took care of the puppy, she cried when the dog was taken away, and she saw the puppy and immediately took it inside.
Christopher Johnson McCandless, the main character in the book “Into the Wild,” had made a lot of friends even though he did not like people. Wayne Westerberg was one of Chris’s friends who he met in a bar. Chris also befriended a girl named Jan Burre. Another person who befriended Chris was a guy named Ronald Franz,
In Ken Kesey’s novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the reader has the experience to understand what it was like to live in an insane asylum during the 1960’s. Kesey shows the reader the world within the asylum of Portland Oregon and all the relationships and social standings that happen within it. The three major characters’ groups, Nurse Ratched, the Black Boys, and McMurphy show how their level of power effects how they are treated in the asylum. Nurse Ratched is the head of the ward and controls everything that goes on in it, as she has the highest authority in the ward and sabotages the patients with her daily rules and rituals. These rituals include her servants, the Black Boys, doing anything she tells them to do with the patients.
A hero is someone who goes on a life journey that is a quest for self-awareness and self-development. Published criticisms of Kesey’s protagonist, R.P. McMurphy, argue that his character is crazy and dangerous; I partially disagree disagree because McMurphy is also adventurous and has a good intention in what he does. McMurphy has a life journey that could consider him as heroic. McMurphy’s journey starts off with him working on a farm then he gets sent to a mental institute. During his time at the mental institute he meets new friends and his mentor, Chief. He also meets his enemy, Nurse Ratched who causes him setbacks. His friends helps him overcome these obstacles. McMurphy became a leader for the other patients at the hospital because he
Imagine going to a new school where there is a student who has more power and control of the class than the teacher. This person stops all drama, helps students, and resolves all the problems. They would be considered a hero to the class. In the book Our Twisted Hero, by Yi Munyol, the antagonist, Om Sokdae, is this person and the twisted hero. Om is the twisted hero because he helps the students get out of trouble but uses them for his advantage.
Although treating mental health disorders has become more humane in our society, the stigma for the clients with mental illness continues to be negative; and individuals are in some often ways branded in a negative light by numerous people in the society. Not every homeless person is mentally ill, yet that is the perception by a vast sector of the population in the United States. The correlation between the individuals in the film Back from Madness and the characters in Crazy represent the unique struggles of people with mental illness. It did not make a difference where those people lived or the income of the family. Todd was the only one in the film where a family member was not living close.
The character(s) that I chose to diagnosis and treat are the Minions from Despicable Me. I would diagnose them with ADHD or “Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder” because they are extremely hyperactive, are constantly being distracted by random objects passing by, and had difficulty in properly carrying out Gru’s objectives because of their disposition to be distracted and wide-eyed at any little thing. In order to treat the minions’ ADHD, i would use behavior therapy which uses learning principles, such as classical and operant conditioning, to get rid of unwanted behavior and reinforced the desired behavior. Specifically, i would use progressive relaxation, despite the fact that it is used mostly to treat anxiety. Progressive relaxation
In Jerry Spinelli’s Maniac Magee. One of Maniac Magee’s characters traits is collaboration. In the book on page, seven Maniac Magee meet Amanda Beale. Then later Maniac Magee really wanted to read one of Amanda Beale’s books so later Maniac Magee cooperated with Amanda so when he was done reading Maniac Magee would give the back book Amanda Beale let him borrow. This shows one of Maniac Magee’s character trait is collaboration because he made a deal with Amanda Beale when he was done with the book he would give it back to Amanda Beale. Another example of Maniac Magee being collaborative. Is on page 21 is when Maniac Magee gave Amanda Beale her book back. This shows one of Maniac Magee character traits is collaboration is because Maniac Magee
The virtue of kindness is not meek it is not niceness. Kindness holds firm to its foundation and values, but it does it in a way that is gentle. Kindness is not naïve, it is wise and discerning (Corey, 211). People confuse being nice as kindness because on the outside both are soft. The inside is what shows the difference. Niceness has no substance, it will go wherever society takes it. Kindness is different, it has a firm, solid center (Corey xv). The components of soft edges and firm centers make kindness warm and inviting and yet it remains deeply rooted to its core beliefs.
“Saturday is a day for torturing people,” Klaus Mikaelson, who is certainly a unique character, once stated. Klaus is a vampire in The Originals, who has certainly changed the face of supernatural media. When one thinks of power, witches and vampires, such as Klaus Mikaelson, are both thought of. Why? Magic and blood are both linked to power. These two topics have greatly influenced the world of mythology for as long as superstition has been around. The modern world now is surrounded by new supernatural aspects, as seen in shows such as Charmed and The Originals. Charmed and The Originals are related in the sense that they have supernatural characters, an emphasis on family values, and they show the endeavor between good and evil.
