“Saturday is a day for torturing people,” Klaus Mikaelson, who is certainly a unique character, once stated. Klaus is a vampire in The Originals, who has certainly changed the face of supernatural media. When one thinks of power, witches and vampires, such as Klaus Mikaelson, are both thought of. Why? Magic and blood are both linked to power. These two topics have greatly influenced the world of mythology for as long as superstition has been around. The modern world now is surrounded by new supernatural aspects, as seen in shows such as Charmed and The Originals. Charmed and The Originals are related in the sense that they have supernatural characters, an emphasis on family values, and they show the endeavor between good and evil. Charmed and The Originals both contain unique supernatural aspects, yet in many ways they can vary from each other or even be identical. …show more content…
Aspects such as magic or a power in these shows can be alike, but tend to be very different. Witches in Charmed tend to be stronger than witches in The Originals because the charmed ones don’t have to rely on other objects of power and they have their own powers to inflict justice. The Original’s witches tend to be more coven-based and have to draw on ancestors and other events such as eclipses; they have no personal powers. The witches in Charmed may have a lot more power when they are together, but the vampires in The Originals are powerful, even when they are alone. This is due to many attributes such as super speed, super strength, fast healing, and immortality. These skills give them the title ruthless killers. Even though Charmed may have demons and The Originals do not, Klaus declares “I’m the devil in disguise”. The Originals may have Klaus but Charmed also has their fair share of evil people that have declared themselves the devil such as the Source, Zankou, The Triad, and many other powerful demons. Which the Charmed ones were able to vanquish. The style in which the enemy is defeated in Charmed is by the charmed ones powers, potions, or a power of 3 spell, but in The Originals it is as easy as a neck snap or a stab to the heart. In both of the shows, family and family values are shown more realistically, however there a few slight differences. In Charmed the whole value of their ethics is what they have together as a family and what they fight for, and they would stick up for each other no matter what, even if it was in a life and death situation such as the tragedy of Prue’s death. Although family is their bond, even love can be a burden, as stated by Piper, “love just feels like an invitation for more pain.” In The Originals, they might not seem to love each other, but family is the most important thing they have; they may not show it, but their ruthlessness is caused by a series of threats to their beloved. Klaus may be evil, yet when you glimpse at his little girl the first thing that is said is “you look well, I aim to change that.” Klaus may act improperly and immaturely, but family is what makes him whole, and he would do anything to protect his little girl. The Mikaelsons may be a mean bunch; however, deep down, that does not keep them from what is important, and the lengths they will go through to protect one another. The Halliwells in Charmed are a different bunch and the word family is a word that can’t describe the bond between the sisters and how it affects everyone around them. They may get annoyed with each other, but they always stick together and no challenge is too hard to overcome when you have the bond of family. Finally, both shows determine that there is a good and evil, and the fight between the two.
In Charmed the fight between good and evil is on the basis of good and how the Halliwells (Piper, Phoebe, Paige, and the late Prue) are always saving the world from the horrors of demons and warlocks one day at a time even when the forces of evil try to triumph over the sisters. In The Originals the fight is against good, and anything that has blood. Klaus, Rebekah, and Elijah, the last of the originals, are always in skirmishes with other vampires, werewolves, and witches in order to get more power and influence in the real world for personal gain. One aspect of that personal gain is to be able to kill more supernatural beings. When Klaus got in a intense argument with Camille, a force of good that was trying to change Klaus’s heart, Klaus stated, “don’t underestimate the allure of darkness; even the purest of hearts are drawn to it.” When Klaus states this it might seem like he is evil, but it shows that deep down even he has humanity because even he is still resisting the pull toward the allure of
darkness. To sum up, Charmed and The Originals have both shown that supernatural aspects can be interpreted and shown differently in numerous unique styles, such as in supernatural dimensions, family, and the clash between good and evil. Both shows have changed how vampires and witches are seen. Many look up to these shows and characters; in the past, people looked at vampires and witches with fear, or other negative feelings. However, with shows like these, many people look at witches and vampires differently. Even, family dynamics are seen in a creative, new way. That is why supernatural shows should still be created and aired around the world.
Before going to Alaska, Chris McCandless had failed to communicate with his family while on his journey; I believe this was Chris’s biggest mistake. Chris spent time with people in different parts of the nation while hitchhiking, most of them whom figured out that McCandless kept a part of him “hidden”. In chapter three, it was stated that Chris stayed with a man named Wayne Westerberg in South Dakota. Although Westerberg was not seen too often throughout the story, nevertheless he was an important character. Introducing himself as Alex, McCandless was in Westerberg’s company for quite some time: sometimes for a few days, other times for several weeks. Westerberg first realized the truth about Chris when he discovered his tax papers, which stated that “McCandless’s real name was Chris, not Alex.” Wayne further on claims that it was obvious that “something wasn’t right between him and his family” (Krakauer 18). Further in the book, Westerberg concluded with the fact that Chris had not spoken to his family “for all that time, treating them like dirt” (Krakauer 64). Westerberg concluded with the fact that during the time he spent with Chris, McCandless neither mentioned his

Literary villains are all around us. For instance, Voldemort from Harry Potter and Darth Vader from Star Wars. What makes a villain? They will go through anyone or damage anything to reach their goal. No matter how small or how tall they are, anyone can be a villain. One of the worst literary villains is Erik Fisher from Tangerine, written by Edward Bloor. He is a liar and a thief. Those traits are what makes the best villains. Throughout the book, Erik shows that he is a villain through his vile and offensive behavior, his need for power, and his insanity.
In the beginning of Something Wicked This Way Comes the story introduces Jim Nightshade and William Halloway. Jim is an ornery and impatient teenager, desperately wanting to break free from the yolk of childhood to become the adult he has always desired to be and Will wants to stay inside his comfort zone, which involves him staying a child for as long as he is able to. Something Wicked This Way Comes accurately addresses the sometimes difficult transition from adolescence into early adulthood.

Doug Swieteck, from “Okay for Now”, by Gary D. Schmidt, lived a life in anger. At the beginning of the book, he was very hateful of everything. But, Doug’s mean older brother took the cap and his dad took his jacket. That added to Doug’s anger even more. But, luckily he turned it around in the middle and end of the book. Christopher Johnson McCandless, a.k.a Alexander Supertramp, “Master of his Own Destiny.” He was an intelligent young man who presented himself as alone but really he was never lonely. However, he believed that life was better lived alone, with nature, so he ventured off throughout western United States before setting off into Alaska’s wild unprepared where he died. Some may say he was naive to go off on such a mission without the proper food and equipment but he was living life the way he wanted to and during his travels he came across three people: Jan Burres, Ronald Franz, and Wayne Westerberg. McCandless befriended these people, it is believed that he made such a strong impression on them that their connection left them with strange feelings after finding out about McCandless’ death.
The lines that define good and evil are not written in black and white; these lines tend to blur into many shades of grey allowing good and evil to intermingle with each another in a single human being. Man is not inherently good or evil but they are born innocent without any values or sense of morality until people impart their philosophies of life to them. In the words of John Locke:
course of his hegira, most of whom spent only a few days in his company, a week

When an individual travels into unknown territory, their greatest chance of survival is in gaining an understanding of the land and the people that inhabit it. The natives are the people who understand the location and what simple missteps could lead to death. The natives live in a world different from the travelers, and the knowledge they carry is greater than anything brought from home. How a character adapts to the environment influences their survival and what they retain after returning home. In Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and State of Wonder by Ann Patchett the main characters must adjust to being in an unknown location or face death. The narrators of State of Wonder and Heart of Darkness journey into unfamiliar territory, however

Sometimes, there are some books that have such intriguing characters in them, that captivate the reader, and make him wonder. Such character is Dr. Stockmann from ‘An enemy of the people’, by Henrik Ibsen. However, to understand the complexity and richness of this character, first one must know the plot of the story. Dr. Stockmann is a doctor that lives in a Norwegian city, whose main attraction are the ‘Baths’. They bring a lot of money to the city, but he is not certain of their healthy quality. So he makes a research and finds out that the ‘Baths’, as he had suspected, are unhealthy for the people. Then, he decides that the right thing to do is inform his townspeople of the polluted water, and protect them. However as it turns out, not everyone is in favor of this discovery, especially his brother, the mayor, who successfully turns everyone against him. Throughout this ‘battle ‘between him and the town, and the way he handles the situation, some traits of Dr. Stockman’s personality, come out. As he is presented in the book, Dr. Stockmann is naïve, selfish and moral.
