1.0 Introduction “By education I mean an all-round drawing out of the best in child and man’s body, mind and spirit.” -Mahatma Gandhi The quote above shows how Mahatma Gandhi emphasizes on all-rounded education. An all-rounded education will only be the reality if the education system fits all the development of the students. Every country in the world is competing with each other to produce the perfect curriculum to prepare their citizens in this modern world. Malaysia is also one of the developing countries which are very concerned about the education system in the country. Australia is another country which is always being compared with the world-class education system. In this essay, we will discuss about the education system from kindergarten until secondary education in Malaysia and Australia and the compare and contrast of the two countries’ education systems. 2.0 Malaysian Education System Malaysia consists of Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah. In Malaysia, all the education system is under the control of government. This central curriculum makes every states and territory having the same curriculum, age to go to school and others. In Malaysia, there are five phrases of education which are preschool, primary, secondary schools and tertiary education (Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025). However, in this essay, we are touching only until secondary education. Preschool education in Malaysia takes the children from 4 to 6 years old. The Australian Curriculum has been a 'long time coming', but its great that it is almost here now. The Australian Curriculum has been designed with some relation to Tyler and Skillbeck's models. It is suspected that theorists such as Piaget were also considered during the development. The Australian Curriculum relates to Piaget's stages of progression, with curriculum being designed for specific levels of maturation and development. With students of this generation, it was incredibly important that an updated, curriculum was to be designed so that it could facilitate the needs of the 21st century learners. This new generation of learners seem to be almost born with basic computer skills, so the ICT program has been completely redeveloped. The curriculum has also expanded to make way for Asian studies which will help students as they move into their careers. The Australian Curriculum has been developed to cover a broad range of topics, concerns and values that will be discussed throughout this paper.

In this paper, it will be looking at the culture and education practices of Finland, Canada, and China. Education varies from country to country as well as does one's culture, lifestyle of the people who live there. In doing so will review their culture and the role of their education policies that are used to motivate schools and teachers to improve student learning along with how their culture plays into learning. Furthermore, children should be taught with respect to their culture. However, we can also learn from one another. In addition, we have similar and different educational practices from one another. Such as when it comes to the Finnish, Canadians, to the Chinese as, we all learn in different environments because of our culture. Furthermore, and most importantly, thus educational practices vary from culture to culture. Commonly, people start to study and get an education by their family and school start from kindergarten until university level. However, what is the meaning of education? It is “a systematic process through which a child or an adult acquires knowledge, experience, skill and sound attitude” (John Parankimalil, 2012). In contrast, the system of education in every country definitely has a different system. For instance, like the education system between Indonesia and Japan. Furthermore, and according to Coombs and Ahmed 1974, education is a continuing process, spanning the years from earliest infancy through adulthood and necessarily involving a great variety of methods and sources. Education also involves inculcating in students distinct bits of knowledge; therefore education is an additive process (White, 2006). It adds to an individual as well as it adds to a country through the individuals who are and would have been or are being educated. According to a study conducted by Olaniyan and Okemakinde 2008, education creates improved citizens and helps to upgrade the general standard of living in a society. Furthermore, education plays a key role in the ability of a developing country to absorb modern technology and to develop the capacity for self-sustaining growth and development (Todaro and Smith, 2012).

This is especially important for young children, for it is with the combination of their innate learning ability and the influence of great educators that can account for their marvelous capacity of potential.
