Maintaining standards and discipline is a responsibility that each and every one of our, seniors, peers and subordinates are inherently obligated to follow. Discipline and standards are what shapes and defines an Army professional. Through teaching of Army standards and discipline, we honor and respect our history, and our heritage, while simultaneously ensuring the success of the Army by motivating us to uphold and exceed the standards that have been set forth in Army Regulations, Field Manuals, Training Manuals, and Department of the Army Pamphlets. We have learned, as a force that the most integral part of being a Soldier, of being an Army leader, is understanding, maintaining and enforcing the standards. Discipline and standards are the only way to maintain the order necessary to accomplish the mission, serve our country, and protect the American way of life. Self-discipline and the moral courage to do what is right is often an arduous battle of morality. However, we do not stand alone in any battle, we stand with the support of our seniors, peers, and subordinates. As Army professionals, we do not shy away from battle or leave fallen comrades. We face adversity and challenges and adapt and overcome to accomplish our mission and ensure the welfare of our subordinates. Discipline and standards are not extraordinarily complicated, or hard to maintain. Discipline and standards simply are the why and the how of being an Army
