In the movie, Made in L.A ,directed by Almudena Carracedo, tells the story about 3 Latino immigrants (Maria,Lupe,and Maura) fighting for their labour rights in the garment industry. The story takes place in L.A where all 3 women are working for 10 to 12 hours in the garment industry to support themselves and their families. Maria, Lupe and Maura decide to take action against the retailer Forever 21 as all garment workers including them have been sewing Forever 21 clothing and are receiving low wages and are forced to work in unlawful conditions. Maura, Lupe, and Maria decide to go to the garment community centre (non-profit) organization to seek help as the centre gives information about the workers rights and how they have the right to complain about any issues they face in their workplace. …show more content…

The president of Forever 21 refuses to take responsibility as he says that he does not know whether these workers worked directly for him or not but in reality, these workers are Forever 21’s responsibility as they hire manufacturers who subcontracts to factories who hire the garment workers ; and as Forever 21 is paying less to the manufacturers who in return are paying less to factories and in return garment workers are receiving less money compared to the amount of work they have to do. As the president of Forever 21 refused to take responsibility, the workers decided to file a lawsuit, campaign and boycott against Forever 21. The lawsuit against Forever 21 was rejected by the court as there was no evidence showing that these workers are their contractors who actually worked for the retailer and made their clothes for them.
