After Melanie disappeared, she started working at a supermarket and has worked at the same supermarket for the past 10 years of her life. She says she felt as if the trip to Fieldston High School was meant to teach the University Heights kids that they were being educated the they will never be as privileged as the kids from Fieldston would be (“Three Miles”). Many may think that Melanie just quit and gave up on her life, but in reality, the trip to Fieldston negatively impacted her life. As for Raquel it was the complete opposite. Raquel was also denied the Posse Scholarship. Instead of giving up she overcame that obstacle and went on to study at Bard College, graduated, got a job as a paralegal, but is now working as a teacher. It all started when her sister Arielle taught her how to do a cartwheel. Gabrielle then did a perfectly one handed cartwheel at four years old. Her sister Arielle was really impressed with what Gabby could do, especially at a young age. Arielle then talked her mother into putting Gabrielle in a gymnastics class and successfully convinced her. Natalie, Gabrielle’s mother, saw the flexibility and coordination in her daughter, and so she enrolled her in a former gymnastics class when she was six years old (bio.com).

The calendar marked March 2, 2016. It was around 6:30 pm or so and Nadya had just got home from school after a long day. Before she was able to get comfortable, her mom silently handed her an eight by eleven-inch white envelope with The Culinary Institute of America at the top left. This could only mean one thing, but she didn't wanted to get her hopes up too high. She nervously opened the envelope and slowly pulled out the letter that was in it. She then read the letter to herself while her mother stood there watching. After reading the first line and ignoring the rest, she screamed and then her mom followed. She had just found out that she was accepted into her dream school, The Culinary Institute of America.

This is the conversation we had on the bus ramp early one morning as Skylar was entering the building. Skylar has been one of my best agriculture students for the last four years. He is dedicated and has a strong willingness to succeed. Since the first day of my class he has always had a dream to attend college, but because he was a special needs student and money was a problem he wasn’t sure he would be accepted. This acceptance letter was proof for him that he was going to college and become an animal science major. Skylar is the first in his family to go to college. During this time of the year Skylar isn’t the only one getting these acceptance letters, thousands of students all over the country are

"Thanks, but for the last time," I said, trying not to sound ungrateful. "I honestly do not need to see a therapist."
My heart is beating rapidly. I am filled with trepidation. Can I perform? Will I remember my routines? Will I stick the landing? Will I keep my legs straight? What if I fall off the beam? What if I disappoint my coaches? What if I’m not the best? What if…?
