A tragic hero is a person is the good and noble type of person but suffers a falling out due to flaws in their own personality. Macbeth is a perfect example of a tragic hero because of his major flaw which is pride. Pride can be good, however, when you have too much pride it eventually leads to ambition. Macbeth reaches that critical moment near the end of the story that alters the state of mind he is in, which consequently adds to his downfall in the end. There is a multitude of factors that contribute to Macbeth being labeled as a tragic hero. In Macbeth, King Duncan speaks highly of Macbeth unaware of the destiny Macbeth will later do to him. The way King Duncan Speaks about Macbeth truly shows Duncans respectable and honorable nature because King Duncan addresses Macbeth as a valiant cousin and a worthy gentleman. After the Witches told Macbeth about him being king of Scotland his flaw of ambition causes him not to listen to his own thoughts anymore, but instead he starts to listen to the words of Lady Macbeth and the three Witches. Macbeth knew both of these things were impossible, so he did not fear Macduff or anyone else. However, when a messenger told him that the forest was moving he became angry. He did not know that it was actually Malcolm’s army was carrying branches from trees. He was filled with fear and anger because the prophecies were coming true. When Macduff told him he was ripped from his mother’s womb in the middle of fighting Macbeth realized he was not invincible and did not want to fight anymore.
