A proposed strategy for improving the quality of mental health related services governed by Organisation X Organisation X Organisation X is one of the clinical commissioning groups responsible for organising and overseeing the provision of NHS services for a specific region in the UK. Organisation X is able to finance for health care in its area and also to enter into financial partnerships with other external bodies or groups. The local general practitioners (GPs) are all members of organisation X and some of these GPs sit on organisation X’s board. As well as providing for physical care organisation X is meant to coordinate services related to mental health care. Why change is required The focus of this paper is the quality of mental health treatments provided by the NHS is organisation X’s region. In terms of scope, mental health services include psychological assessments, a range of therapies (psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, talking therapies etc.) and medications. It is estimated that one in every four people will experience some form of mental health problem in their lifetime. In recent years the standards of mental health care offered in the UK have come under review and criticism. Politically the improvement of mental health services is an important issue. The IAPT service fully launched by the NHS in 2014 is meant to reduce the time between first contact with mental health professionals and the initiation of treatment to six weeks; however, the service run by organisation X has not been consistently achieving this goal. Waiting times need to be reduced not only to meet these goals but also to improve the service user’s satisfaction. Additionally the referral system to mental health treatment is complicated, with several pathways and steps. Making this system simpler and more efficient could help to reduce the current waiting
