Mark Twain tells the story of Huckleberry Finn, and his maturity that is developed through a series of events. This maturity is encouraged through the developing relationship between Huck and Jim, as well as the strong influence Jim has on Huck. Jim's influence not only effects Huck's maturity, but his moral reasoning; and the influence society has on Huck. Jim is Huck's role model; even though Huck would not admit it. At first Jim seems to portray a Black stereotypical role with his superstitions and ignorance, although his true identity and maternal role begins to shine through as his interactions with Huck progress.
The men in the group faced a challenge of showing bravery. They always had to “one up” each other. The soldiers were told to go to the dentist. As they were told this, Curt fainted. This showed how he was unmanly, which wasn’t very good for his reputation. So when it was his turn, he told the doctor to pull one of his teeth. This was to show how he was a bigger and better man than the rest because nothing was wrong with that tooth or any other tooth. Later, Lemon is killed by playing catch with a grenade. This showed how dumb it was to try and waste their time trying to show everyone how they were bigger
Have you ever wondered how your life would be if there were two of you or maybe even three of you, but all within the same body? It would probably get really hectic really fast within your mind. Most people including myself would assume that a person could not possibly live a life in that manner or at least not a very functioning one for that matter. Fortunately for a woman named Frankie, that could not be farther from the truth. Frankie and Alice is a movie based off of a true life story of a woman who suffered from a dissociative identity disorder (DID) in the 1970s. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), DID, formerly known as multiple personality disorder involves a disturbance of identity in which two or more separate
After turmoil erupts on the island, and Ralph is on the verge of being killed, a naval officer arrives on the island. Ralph is first unaware of the of the naval officer, “He staggered to his feet, tensed for more terrors and looked up at a huge peaked cap. It was a white-topped cap, and above the green shade of the peak was a crown, an anchor, gold foliage. He saw white drill, epaulettes, a revolver, a row of gilt buttons down the front of a uniform” (200). Once this uniformed (properly dressed) man arrives at the island, order is once again restored. The conflict and combat is immediately ceased. Once the naval officer asks who is in charge, Ralph claims authority over the boys without any questions.

Abigail, if you’re blaming me for his death, it wasn’t my fault! (Angrily) and if anyone was to die, it should have been you, not him!
“he said he would be right back, oh, it’ll only take a sec babe, I won’t be long. It was stupid of me to be mad at him, maybe if I had gone with him, maybe he would have lived. But I didn’t and now he’s dead and I’m as much to blame as that guy who didn’t help him because he was a Royal. He’ll never know how… how much I really loved him.”
Huck Finn learns from the actions of people around him, what kind of a person he is going to be. He is both part of the society and an outlier of society, and as such he is given the opportunity to make his own decisions about what is right and what is wrong. There are two main groups of characters that help Huck on his journey to moral maturation. The first group consists of Widow Douglas, Miss Watson, and the judge. They portray society and strict adherence to rules laid out by authority. The second group consists of Pap, the King, and the Duke. They represent outliers of society who have chosen to alienate themselves from civilized life and follow no rules. While these characters all extremely important in Huck’s moral development, perhaps the most significant character is Jim, who is both a fatherly figure to Huck as well as his parallel as far as limited power and desire to escape. Even though by the end of the novel, Huck still does not want to be a part of society, he has made a many choices for himself concerning morality. Because Huck is allowed to live a civilized life with the Widow Douglas, he is not alienated like his father, who effectively hates civilization because he cannot be a part of it. He is not treated like a total outsider and does not feel ignorant or left behind. On the other hand, because he does not start out being a true member of the society, he is able to think for himself and dismiss the rules authority figures say are correct. By the end of the novel, Huck is no longer a slave to the rules of authority, nor is he an ignorant outsider who looks out only for himself. This shows Huck’s moral and psychological development, rendering the description of “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” as a picaresq...

"Me too." She replied, tears still running down her face. For a few seconds they just stood there, accross the room from one another, staring at each other through the sparks and small fires. Then she started walking toward him, saying, "Oh what the hell, we're gonna die anyway."
