I am writing this recommendation letter for the admission of Lucy Moussignac in Ross University. I first met Ms. Moussignac as a volunteer at NY Methodist hospital and was immediately impressed by her interest and enthusiasm for patient care and medicine. Ms. Moussignac was not a volunteer on my floor at NY Methodist but met her because she would be in the sitting area near the nurse’s desk twice a week. This was a bit odd because volunteers only went to the labor and delivery floor to see the newborns but Ms. Moussignac would speak to nervous family members, and observe from afar. Therefore after discussions about her intentions, I allowed her into patients’ rooms and that's when saw her focus. Ms. Moussignac regarded every epidural, ultrasound,
and procedure intently and was not anxious by the noise, smells, or fluids. Although her persistence can be aggravating, her kind-heartedness and compassion fully compensate for her eagerness. Despite my disappointment of Ms. Moussignac’s decision to become a physician and not a nurse, I am looking forward to the great work she will accomplish. Ms. Moussignac had told me that she wants to be an emergency physician in order to help the most amount of people and to be fluent in as many skills as possible. That in itself should speak volumes to Ms Moussignac’s drive and commitment to the public’s health. I am certain that Lucy Moussignac would make an outstanding student in your university and a wonderful doctor.

For this assignment I was able to interview Regina Bowman RN, BSN. Her current position is that of the Director of Medical Surgical Nursing. Her position places her over top of seven nursing units between two facilities. Regina graduated from the Mercer Medical School of Nursing in 1979 with her diploma in nursing. The Mercer medical school of nursing is still in operation although it has been renamed the Capital Health School of Nursing. Her return to school started after graduation. She enrolled at Mercer County Community College to obtain her Associates. Secondly she attended La Salle University and received her Bachelor’s in Nursing in 2003. Lastly she is currently enrolled at the Thomas Edison State University, and has a prospective graduation of 2011 with her Masters Degree in Nursing. Regina has work in many clinical jobs, both in and out the hospital. Initially she began her nursing carrier as a medical surgical nurse shortly after graduation. After she gained experience she worked in the emergency room only to return to med-surge as an assistant manager. Subsequently the unit in which she worked closed and Regina was placed in an outpatient setting managing hospital owned physician groups. This position leads to her return as the manager of 7 East a general medical unit. This position eventually gave her the opportunity to hold her current position as a hospital director.
In this paper I will write about my observation of the Miss Z who was a 28 year old patient in the S hospital where I had my Lifespan 1 clinical placement. Also, I will write about Mrs. M. who is a Registered Nurse at the High Risk Pregnancy Unit of the S. hospital where Miss Z. was a patient. More specifically, I will describe how Non-Stress Test was done by the nurse Z. During this test nurse repositioned Miss Z, strapped two sensors to her belly, and interacted with Miss. Z. In addition to collaboration with other faculty members of the health department and the community, the nurse also has to be able to handle diverse populations with a wide variety of health concerns. Patients come into the health department for numerous reasons including, immunizations, birth control, annual physicals, STD testing, prenatal case management and vision hearing and dental screenings. She would start by taking the patients’ weight and blood pressure, while asking the patient focused assessment questions. The assessment questions would focus on why the patient came into the facility and in some cases, she would even talk to the patient on a more personal level. No matter what the problem may have been, my preceptor always had the ability to make the patient comfortable. Most patients have been coming to this health department for years now, so they really respect and trust the nurses working here. The nurse presented as the health educator and patient advocate, while promoting holistic health services. No matter what services the patients’ were in need of, education was always part of the process. In many ways the nurse was doing the job of a nurse practitioner, by prescribing birth control, performing Papanicolaou (pap) smears, and ordering diagnostic tests including STD testing. The nurse also performed duties in her management position, including, ordering supplies for the facility, balancing her budget for purchases, and hiring a new part time nurse. Luckily, I am very comfortable with patients, which made providing care very easy. I was not afraid to go into other patient’s rooms if they rang for help. I would try my best to help the patients; however, if I needed help I was not afraid to ask a fellow student or nurse on the staff. It is very important to be able to talk to patients and work as a team with fellow coworkers as it made the job easier. On the other hand, I need to go over mother and baby assessments to become more familiar with both. I was able to complete the assessments; I now need to do so in a timelier manner while ensuring I do not forget any key areas. Lastly, it is vital that I continue to go over patient teaching prior to clinical. Being comfortable with the patients made the teaching easier, though I need to become more familiar with all the material that needs to be taught.

I went to the operating room on March 23, 2016 for the Wilkes Community College Nursing Class of 2017 for observation. Another student and I were assigned to this unit from 7:30am-2:00pm. When we got their we changed into the operating room scrubs, placed a bonnet on our heads and placed booties over our shoes. I got to observe three different surgeries, two laparoscopic shoulder surgeries and one ankle surgery. While cleaning the surgical room for the next surgery, I got to communicate with the nurses and surgical team they explained the flow and equipment that was used in the operating room.
