1.1 RESEARCH BACKGROUND “The love of a family is life’s greatest blessing”. I started off with this popular quotes about family because I do believe in an intimate relationship that is built among the family members, as many of us are now able to see the true connection between love and family. I find this area somewhat interesting and it gives inspiration because, as a youngest sister and daughter in my family’s member, it allows me to understand the situation better based on my personal experience. “Homepower, we love each other!” are always my family’s signature quote to each other when someone leaves the house in order to create intimacy or to show how close we are. It is because we love each other whenever and wherever we are. Most families I know are very loving and kind but the sad truth is, not everyone get to grow up with caring families. If I were asked who the most precious people in my life are, I would undoubtedly answer: my family. They were the people whom I could lean on to matter what happens. Nonetheless, after overhearing my mother demanded a divorce, I could not love her as much as how I loved her once because she had crushed my belief on how perfect life was when I had a family. I felt as if she did not love me anymore. Poets like Philip Levine and Robert Hayden understand this feeling and depict it in their poems “What Work Is” and “Those Winter Sundays.” These poems convey how it feels like to not feel love from the family that should have loved us more than anything in the world. Yet, they also convey the reconciliation that these family members finally reach because the speakers can eventually see love, the fundamental component of every family in the world, which is always presence, indeed.
