Patriote or Traitor?
Louis Riel was born in 1844. He was captured and executed by Canadian authorities in November 16, 1885. He was a leader who gave up his life and time to fight for the right of the Metis, Indians and the western settlers. He was an well-educated young man fluent in both French and English. He was also selected as the Metis’s spokesman to negotiate with the Canadian government. During the 1869-70, he led the rebel when Canada purchases Manitoba from the Hudson’s bay company. Also, he organized and led a similar rebellion in 1885. Above all, is he a patriote or a traitor? It was inappropriate to accuse Riel as a traitor. He tried to defend the traditional rights of Metis and made sure they treated as equally as the British subjects. Riel was a patriote, who passionately love, supported and defended his people. He was also a serious and thoughtful person who dedicated his life to help others. Metis, Native Indians and western setters were all very proud of and respected this leader because of his life long effort. He was a person who was willing to step up and told the government what they needed. Riel never wanted any violent, in fact, he wanted to use peaceful methods to achieve the changes they desired. Moreover, he had no intention to declare independence nor to take over Canada. Unfortunately, Canadian government did not realize the difficult situation of the Metis. They kept ignoring and disregarding their demand. Consequently, these people were forc...
...conclusion that Louis Riel is indeed a legacy who should be regarded as one who is innocent. He has left us questioning whether or whether not his movements were plausible, but then again, he has nevertheless managed to carry honor and pride, while contributing many things towards Canada through his objectives. He preserved the Métis home territory and rights through many obstacles, which gradually led to the formation of Manitoba. He went through plenty of danger, while he knew they were coming. Louis Riel’s noble actions are too worthy to be burdened with charges of high treason and felony. “No matter what happens now,” he stated, “the rights of the Métis are assured by the Manitoba Act; that is what I wanted. My mission is finished.” Louis Riel, a hero, a saint, a prophet, is not the only one that is facing injustice and discrimination today in the 19th century.
... of people. Due to Forrest’s naïve nature he doesn’t seem to have any repercussions of the war although the movie does show the atrocities that happened. The use of naïve characters seems to be affective in making the audience sympathise with the protagonist and then being able to use the protagonist to prove social commentaries.

John A. Macdonald’s, reaction to the Northwest Rebellion was one that supported the Canadian Pacific Railway the elimination of the Northwest conflict and the dream of having a coast to coast nation. In 1885 John A. Macdonald promised B.C to build a railway from coast to coast. However, the Metis didn’t like this idea, because it was coming in the way of the Bison Hunt and pemmican, which they made a living from. Louis Riel set up a provisional government (a temporary government), creating a conflict between the Metis and the Canadian government and committing treason,by doing this. Twelve RCMP officers were killed, because of the conflict. Not only that, but John A. Macdonald sent 5000 militias on the train to resolve the conflict. John A.

To start off with, the true realities of some of the events that happened weren’t expressed clearly to show the viewers what the real experience should be. One example that demonstrates this is when Forrest goes to war in Vietnam to fight in the Vietnam War. During that...

Beowulf can easily be considered the magnum opus of Anglo-Saxon literature. Often times considered the “mother poem” of England, Beowulf is on par with Greece’s Iliad and Odyssey. Within its pages, the titular character embarks on captivating quests and adventures, leaving the reader with a quick snapshot of Anglo-Saxon life and culture. Set in the dreary land of sixth-century Scandinavia, the poem displays important Anglo-Saxon ideals such as male dominance and revenge. Written by an unidentified seventh-century Christian monk, the epic story of Beowulf is brilliantly infused with both Christian and pagan mythoi. By some accounts, Beowulf, himself, represents Jesus Christ while the three antagonists represent separate entities of Satan. Regardless, Beowulf has maintained to be a relevant piece of literature for nearly 1,300 years. Through his stroke of literary genius and expert-level use of diction, tone, imagery, and style, the author assembled a work that has stood a true test of time, yet has continued to stand true to its bygone roots.

Law is fundamental to all societies, thus it makes sense that we have laws in place for one of, if not the most important material to our survival. Water. Water is a finite resource that is used in everyday life, from drinking to agriculture. Laws change over time and place, which could be viewed as an evolution; ever changing and strange at times.
