Within a decade, it is estimated that roughly 2 billion people around the world would be either speaking and/or learning the english language. With the advent of the internet, this language is spread easily through various continents and countries. Places such as India, Pakistan, The Philippines and Nigeria have their own indigenous and local languages but are also ranked with the most english speakers in their country right after the United States which is first. India which comes second already has approximately 125 million english speakers. China, which is the most populated country in the world now has roughly 400 million people using English which is approximately one third of China’s population, according to a 2010 China Daily article. …show more content…

Sadly, the physical annihilation of communities of native speakers of a language is all too often the cause of language extinction. In North America, European colonists brought death and destruction to many Native American communities. This was followed by US federal policies restricting the use of indigenous languages, including the removal of native children from their communities to federal boarding schools where native languages and cultural practices were prohibited. Going around the world would definitely require communication and using English would be the best option. Learning English can also introduce and teach you about the culture in English-speaking countries and may give an insight to their lifestyle and perspective. This is because languages are also spoken with tone, body language and facial expression. Business interviews are easier as English is the international language for Business.
The ability to communicate with a wide variety of people can build up your confidence.

On the other hand, many languages don't distinguish the sounds English makes significant use of. For example, the Chinese language makes little difference between the voiced and unvoiced consonants. A language officially and natively used by specific nations does not qualify as a good international communication means.

If schools focused more on native languages, it would play a huge role and part in preserving their culture through language and communication. All public, private and international schools in the whole, country should have one at least have one subject of their native or local language taught to their students in their curriculum. The subject should also be examinable as it should be prominent and taken more seriously. Teaching these languages to the next generation can help them pass it on to the future generations including our cultures and traditions that come
