1. Compare and contrast Ralph and Jack. How are the two boys alike, and how are they different? Write your answer in a paragraph, using examples from the text to support your response.
Answer:
Ralph and Jack are the same because they want to be leaders and the boys follow them. They both are effective leaders, in their own way. Ralph is more of the keeping them together and civil. He has organized the group to have certain jobs like building shelter, gather food, water and keeping the fire going so they can get off the island. “If a ship comes near the island they may not notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire” (Golding 29).
Jack is more focused on hunting and getting meat but he also organized his choir group to help. Jack only cares about hunting and doesn’t care about keeping the fire going or having shelter. Jack doesn’t care about being civil, organized or trying to get off the island. He becomes so focus on hunting that he gets forceful and mean. “They could be the army—, or hunters—“(Golding 17).

Well for the beginning it was a group of little boys that had never be exposed to distraction and grown up problems because their families are the ones who set their rules and punishments. So when they had no grown ups they didn’t have any rules and structure. When they tried to create their own, it fail because they are children. People crave leasers, laws, and order, and responsible leaders are necessary to preserve civilization.
