Patzer) Lookism is when people discriminate on another person because they are physically unattractive. (Webster) Lookism happens all of the time in daily life. Lookism is used in your daily work life, in relationships, and how people treat you in your daily life. People use lookism all of the time at work. Even when you are applying for a job. The odds are that the person that looks the best is going to get the job. There are some jobs that have to judge people based on their looks to determine if they are fit for the job. Like for example a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader. If you were ugly or fat then you would most likely not be able to become a cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys or any major sport that uses cheerleaders. The people that judge them are using lookism to decide if they get the job or not. Also this happens in daily work life. There have been many cases where at work the boss will promote someone over another person based on their looks. Sometimes the person that wasn’t as good looking is better at the job. Newsweek magazine has revealed that 24% of adults that have jobs know someone who has gotten ahead at work because of their looks, 30% know someone who has been impacted negatively at work due to their looks, and 78% said that people that are more overweight have a …show more content…

Women and men both use lookism when they are looking for somebody to date. If you are looking for someone to date then you are most likely not looking for someone who is unattractive. The people that are more attractive have a better chance of finding someone then someone who is unattractive. Lookism is used to pick out the people that you are willing to date. Lots of people don’t even get a chance at the person they like the most because of people looking only on the outside of a person and not on the inside characteristics of that
