Loa Tzu, a chinese philosopher, once said that, “the journey of the thousand miles starts with one step.” This quote makes me look at Loa Tzu as an enlightened and astute individual. It is understandable why he abides by this quote because it must have helped him start on his dreams and goals which founded Taoism. This quote is a life lesson which means that in order to achieve something great, you have to start small by taking your first step towards that goal.
I acquiesce with this quote because I have had many personal experiences relating to this quote. Many people have great ideas and thoughts that they could turn into reality. However, all they do is dream on how to get there and what it would be like once they cross the finish line.
“A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is braver five minutes longer.”-Ralph Waldo Emerson. That quote is my favorite because it shows you that everyone is the same ,but there is some people that stand out more than others like my hero Fernando Valenzuela.
...ving dreamed a marvelous dream, I urge you to step boldly into it, to join your dream and to live it" (O'Brien 284). Thoughts lead to actions. But dreaming is also doing. The act of imagination can sometimes have more power than any technological weapon. It is imaginations that stop wars.
Elizabeth Lavenza (later Elizabeth Frankenstein) is one of the main characters in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. She is a beautiful young girl; fragile and perfect in the eyes of all. Her father was a nobleman from Milan, while her mother was of German descent. Before she was adopted by the wealthy Frankenstein family, she lived with a poor family. After Alphonose and Caroline Frankenstein adopt Elizabeth, they lovingly raise her alongside their biological son, Victor Frankenstein, in hopes that the two will eventually get married. When Victor goes off to Ingolstadt college, Elizabeth writes letters to him that later become a crucial part of the story. It weaves together every piece of the story, holding together each individual
Some of us can be slaves to society, but still there are some others that will see beyond it to reach for what they want. People will do anything to fulfill their dreams. They will travel great distances or change their whole lifestyles to succeed. But not everyone prevails. In the end, it's the people that guide themselves and are not controlled by others. The best days may be the first to flee, but dreams live on forever (174).
“All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” This quote from Walt Disney addressing the concept of achieving dreams is very accurate, and can be seen throughout literature today and in the past. Dreams can give people power or take away hope, and influence how people live their lives based upon whether they have the determination to attack their dreams or not; as seen through characters like the speaker in Harlem by Langston Hughes and Lena and Walter Younger in Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in The Sun.
“Wisdom, Happiness, and Courage are not waiting somewhere out beyond sight at the end of a straight line; they are part of a continuous cycle that begins right here. They are not only the ending but the beginning as well” (Hoff 137). In Tao of Pooh, Benjamin Hoff explains the fundamentals of Taoism through the cute characters of Winnie the Pooh. Each character’s action helps explains how Taoism works and affects our everyday lives.
Harvey Mackay once said, “A dream is just a dream. A goal is a dream with a plan and a deadl...
... said, “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”
This quote from William Arthur Ward reflects upon me and maybe even others here: "If you can imagine it, you can create it.
千里之行, 始于足下, Qiānlǐ zhī xíng, shǐ yú zúxià, is a proverb developed by 半途而废, Bàntú'érfèi, a Chinese philosopher and poet. He is believed to have found Taoism, a philosophy that advocates about the simplicity and calmness of living life. Its literal translation in English, "The journey of a thousand miles begins beneath one's feet," was coined by Dr. Hilmar Klaus, a Daoist writer and psychologist. According to Thomas Cleary, author of Further Teachings of Lao-tzu, this proverb may have derived from around the time of c. 604-c. 531 B.C. in the Tao Te Ching, a Chinese classic text. That was the time period when Lao-tzu lived his life and did most of his work. The moral meaning of this proverb is that we must take the initiative to begin the first step in order to achieve or thrive in anything. We all have the opportunity to thrive and excel; however, to actually succeed is based on your self-motivation t...
... up and my pen ran out of ink. I feel that the Tao help me write this paper. One quote that helped me was, “Men knowing the way of life do without acting”(The Way of Life 63). I feel that with the Tao I can accomplish anything. If I do not try to succeed at something than I will. If I do not try to write a paper than my thoughts will come to me and I will be able to write a good paper. I will also treat other people with a more respect than I did before. I will do this just by not saying anything at all. “Those who talk do not know”(Tao 56). The Tao can help everyone only if they let the Tao into their lives.
Walt Disney once said, “All of our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them”. Everyone has something they want to achieve in life, and without realizing it people are creating their own version of the American dream. The dream is about reaching for the impossible to ensure one’s “perfect life”. Then people are able to challenge the difficulties they face and rise above them. Through hard work, knowing failure and starting over is a part of success, and finding their individual dream is how it can become a reality.
“If you can imagine it you can create. If you can dream it, you can become it.”
Dreams do come true. Everyone in their life has a dream or two or three. Finding the way to achieve your dreams, goals, and aspirations is an epic journey on its own. It takes discipline, determination, and self -exploration. This is the tale of the journey I am still currently on.
