Lizards eat hundred pounds of insects. Most lizards are herbivores .Some are omnivores. Some are just carnivores. The Komodo Dragons eat deer, pigs and humans.Thorny Devils eat ants. They can eat about 600 to 3,000 ants a meal.Lizards can only one ant at a time. They can eat 45 ants a minute.
Get ready to learn about the deadliest and smallest poisonous animal in the world. The Strawberry Poison-Dart Frog (Oophaga pumilio) is the most poisonous animal in the world. It’s as big as a finger very colorful. These frogs are native from Central America. In this essay, you will learn what its adaptations are, what process has it used to become what it is now, how it impacts society, how it relates to everyday life and what are the short-term and long-term impacts.
Without the horned lizard, the Saguaro desert would fall apart quickly. If you have ever heard someone say, “Hey look! There’s a horned toad!” they are really referring to a horned lizard. They have spines (spikes) to protect themselves from predators. These lizards move slowly, and are patient for their food. They eat mostly insects such as ants, and in the Saguaro desert, they eat kangaroo rats. There are 14 different species of horned lizards. They are different in some ways, but all of their colors resemble their surroundings, and it helps them to stay safer. Horned lizards can survive in many climates and temperatures. If it gets too hot, they burrow with their head sticking out at the surface of the ground. That way, it cools them down without having to go far. Conveniently they can stay in their home for the winter. They survive by burrowing in the ground and hibernating. Horned lizards mostly lay eggs, but for some species, the young are born alive. After the eggs are laid, the parents ...
they also live in other types of forests in Madagascar. Lemurs can only be found living in
Exotic snakes such as the python, boa constrictors and anaconda as well as the Monitor and Tegu lizard are taking over central and southern Florida and pose an extreme threat to the eco- system and to the families that are residing there.
At a time, scientists believed all dinosaurs were cold-blooded. However, with a recent discovery of a dinosaur found with a fossilized heart in the northern part of South Dakota in 1993, many paleontologists are starting to think that there were some dinosaurs that were warm blooded.
Although multifarious people may believe, that the Tasmanian devil is a vicious animal, they are not as vicious as they seem. These devils will feed off of other dead animals, and won’t go hunt for their food. Tasmanians are an endangered species. They are a carnivorous marsupial. Even though they look adorable, they are extremely fierce. The species scientific name is Sarcophilus Harrisii . (“Tasmanian Devil, Sarcophilus harrisii”).
Deinos, Greek for fearfully great; awe-inspiring and sauros meaning a lizard. From these words “Dinosaur” is created. When imagining a dinosaur, do thoughts of a large Tyrannosaurus Rex, a swift Velociraptor, or a gliding Pterodactyl appear? Or are those thoughts composed of an image of a small Compsognathus? Do visions of the dinosaurs that we often saw in our childhood come to mind? The amiable brightly colored friends in cartoons or the fearsome bloodthirsty experiments in movies? Were those dinosaurs portrayed accurately? There are features such as size that was changed to appeal more to popular media and for creativity. The Dilophosaurus is a dinosaur that became popular in the the public due to Michael Crichton’s novel “Jurassic Park”. Dilophosaurus means “Two crested lizard”. It was named this because of the two crests on it’s head. The Dilophosaurus in Jurassic Park, both in the movie and book, has a false depiction of size, abilities that no one can prove, and features which are unlikely.
Dinosaurs are an extinct group of animals that thrived for 165 million years starting 230 million years ago in the Late Triassic period of the Mesozoic Era. Despite being extinct for the past 65 million years and not being able to study them in their true form, scientists have been able to estimate many different behaviors of dinosaurs. This paper will show that the close study and examination of different types of body and trace fossils, along with animal models, can be provided as evidence to estimate different types of behaviors in dinosaurs. The different types of behaviors examined below will fall into the categories of: mating; reproduction and nesting; social lives; locomotion; feeding; and fighting. To begin, a great deal of information gathered from fossils and compared to living animal models have been used to estimate mating behaviors.
The only number that scientist have given is around 1.9 million animal species and there could be even more yet to be discovered. Scientist believes there are approximately 450,000 plant species in the world but even that number isn’t solid number to work with. We can however calculate the current extinction rate of the known species of animal and plant life and actually track how many die each year. (Dell’Amore
...ll. This group still remained successful during the Jurassic period and had a wide geopraphic distribution. Other reptiles evolved to not only live on land, but to fly. The earliest known birds appeared during this period; Archaeoteryx being the first to be considered the intermediate between the birds and predatory dinosaurs. It is debated on whether this ancient bird could actually fly or merely glid from tree to tree. Carnosaurus, meaning “meat-eating” is another group of dinosaurs that ruled during the Jurassic. With such large herbivorous prey animals, the correlation of these large predators make sense of why they were so common. An Allosaurus was one of the most common Carnosaurs in North America. Upon finding numerous intact skeletons in fossil beds, it has been reported that the Allosaurus was superficially similar to the later evolving Tyrannosaurus rex.
The Genus Varanus komodoensis, or more commonly known as the Komodo dragon is the largest living lizard on Earth. The Komodo dragon belongs to the class reptilian and the phylum Chordata. They are a species of Monitor Lizard that have been isolated for millions of years on the islands in Indonesian Archipelago and were not discovered until the First World War (Diamond, 1994).
Most frogs have teeth only on their upper jaw. Toads swallow their prey in one piece. To aid in the swallowing process, the frog’s eyes sink through the openings in the skull and force the food down its throat. Frogs eat insects, catching them with their long sticky tongue. They also eat small fish and worms. They also absorb concentrate to make them stronger, and toxins (poisonous substances) in their fatty tissues.
The remains of these dinosaurs were found on every continent except Antarctica thus proving that they were very widespread. Sauropods had the most long lived life span when compared to other animals. Their existence expanded up to 100 million years. This was a very long time, especially for such a large animal to maintain itself (Klein, 2011). However, after many years, they began to die one by one due to the challenges that presented themselves in the wild. For example, vegetation became scarce. They began to starve and became an easier prey to predators. Eventually, this led to
Most people believe that all Alligators and crocodiles live in the Everglades region in Florida, as it is a really well-known place for each to reside, but they do not even live next to one another in most instances. The environment that alligators and crocodiles live in is very
