Today our literacy topic was about apostrophe. L. O. I recognise contractions.
Resources: paper sheet- power point- smart board- felt tips- white board- key vocabulary and concepts: apostrophe- high up comma- missing word- formal- informa.

Today Miss B explained about a new topic. She said:” today we are going to learn about apostrophe which is very important in writing. The apostrophe is a little mark that look like a high up comma. Usually apostrophe has two jobs and one of them is contraction. When we write a contracted word, apostrophe show us where the missed out letters were. For every new topic we get help from power point for demonstrating. For example, I am Lily the pupils have seen this sentence on the smart board and after 5 seconds a changed to an apostrophe like I’m Lily. Then after that Miss B asked them to all have notice board. She asked them some questions and they should answered on the board and show us.

I was sitting next to them and I was looking them. I explained to them what they should exactly do. I repeated to them that we use apostrophe for missing word. We use apostrophe to indicate missing letters from contracted form. For example, you are you’re. The apostrophe indicates the letter” a” is missing. I also added contracted forms are common and correct in formal writing to show informal speech. Student H asked me what does informal mean? I replied that for example when you want to write to your friend or to one of your family you can use informal speech, but if you want to write to someone who is very important for example, a manger or a head teacher you should use formal language and we do not usually use contracted forms in formal
